Hi First Gen Camaro owners/drivers:
I have a 1968 Camaro standard base model. I'm trying to decipher the factory correct front and real wheel well opening moldings. In researching this topic for the past few days, I think I'm getting closer to getting it right, but I wanted to get the final approval from the experts at CRG. This is what I have so far:
From Heartbeat City Camaro (part EXT-1526):
GM9785881 LF
GM9785880 RF
GM4229494 LR
GM4229493 RR
But from Camaro Central (part BCM-898):
GM9785881 LF
GM9785880 RF
GM7229494 LR
GM7229493 RR
I'm not sure why the LR and RR part numbers are different. Does anyone know what are the correct GM part numbers for the LR and RR wheel well molding for a non-RS 1968 Camaro? Are they published in the 1968 Camaro FAIM or in the 1968 Fisher Body Service Manual? I've looked and unfortunately no joy. Finally, I've read that D&R Classic makes the best wheel well moldings, but I'm not sure. Several people swear by Classic Hqs.
I really hope to get this finally resolved. Many thanks in advance for the help. gwp4

I'd say that's a typo from Camaro Central on the rears. The numbers from HBC are correct. Those are full length moldings.... HOWEVER, I believe some original, standard (non RS) 68's have been observed with short moldings in the rear. They were the same as used with 68RS as well. It's somewhat of a mystery to me why the short moldings were used on 68 non RS cars. All 67's used full length moldings.
So I hope that clears it up for ya. :D I'd be interested in hearing what other 68 owners have found on their original, non RS cars....
BTW, there are some NOS front moldings currently on ebay.

The short rears for 68 are 7795063 RH , 7795064 LH

STD Rears (*I just got a set of 4 for my restoration) 8)

NICE, Jim...care to take a trip down memory lane? :D $100 for all 4, 30yrs ago. And I had to cut them off as RS was NLA (over the counter).
Ya can't hardly go wrong with these GM moldings. Fit and finish is superb.👍
