Title: 69 Z Block Stamp (12A Build)
Post by: gbowman on August 08, 2021, 07:26:24 PM
Does this stamp look correct or could it be a restamp on a date correct block? Thanks.

Both look home-made to me.

Agreed. I have a real one only 40 cars away, doesn't look like that.

My suspicions confirmed. That's why I put it out there to you folks for input. I ran across the car yesterday listed on Fakebook by a "Muscle Car Dealer" in NC. The first thing that really caught my attention in the ad was the fact that the seller posted, "The original trim tag also denotes the car to be a factory RS/Z28", Huh?? Priced at $89,500. Thanks guys!

Isn't the block stamp too close to the head for a small block? I thought the gang holder wouldn't fit way up there? If so, that's it right off, no need to even look at the fonting etc.... Danny

100% correct, Danny. Easiest way to spot a restamp - block was stamped with the head not installed. Not exactly the standard line procedure to remove the heads before stamping the assembled engine -

Steve

If JM,s report says it is a real RSZ28 even with a "correct" drivetrain it is a sharp car. A little adjustment on the price and it would be a nice cruise in car. Then the buyer could join the group of us in search of the born with parts.

Not trying to stir up anything here as the car is very close to me and I was interested in talking with the owner about it until the stamping issue came to light.

On another note, what constitutes a certified JM car? I don't know him personally nor have I ever spoken with him. What does he look at/look for when certifying a car? Without the original build sheet and absence of an X code on the CT of this car, how would anyone know it's a true RS/Z?

In another thread about this car on YN, there is doubt about the authenticity of the dealer invoice as well. There again, no offense intended, just want to know for my own knowledge. Thanks again.

Without seeing the entire report there is no way to determine the extent of the deficiencies with a certified car.
The certificate doesn't tell you what it will take to correct the car for legends judging.

Why I hate those certificates. They are decoys for the real data sheets....

If the block stamp, VIN and dealer invoice is fake I would assume the cert is fake also. If I were a serious buyer I would pick up the phone and call JM. We really cant tie JM and his opinion to the car until that is verified.

I wouldn't assume that. I would just ask to see the rest of the report.
