So I saw this 69Z pop up on my feed from BAT:
https://bringatrailer.com/listing/1969-chevrolet-camaro-z-28-28/?utm_source=dm&utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=2021-01-23
I saw in the comments that William has endorsed the car, which was surprising to me, since the trim tag was suspect to me. maybe just a color change?
I would appreciate others chiming in with there opinion of the trim tag.
thanks

Tag seems ok.
-
I have spent several hours with this car. No question the tag is real. So is the VIN stamped original DZ engine, the VIN stamped M22 trans and the BU0501G rear axle.
In a few months the weather will break, cruise nights will start. Many will regret fumbling this rare opportunity to arrive in an original drive train, M22 equipped Z/28.
Stop thinking "prom queen" start thinking driver!
-
Anybody want to guess the final price? 4 days left. $65k is my guess.
-
Ok, I don't see too many cars with the stripes different from the vinyl top. Could be a good driver.
I guess the POP mistake on the rear end stamp can be overlooked.
William were you inspecting this car to help sell it? (just curious)
-
If it was me - I would say NUNYA.
-
I imagine it is most surface rust but the bottom looks (ruff) to me. Nothing a weekend with wire brush and rattle cans couldn,t make look better. Real M22 Z,s must be rare, can,t say I have seen one documented before.
-
2117 Camaros got the M22 in 1969.
1277 in 1968.
None in 1967.
-
Beautiful Camaro, and with the rock crusher trans!

Really not an inspection, just getting data for the ad.

I have some other 05C's which exhibit characteristics in areas of concern which match up nicely Additionally I don't see any of the tell tales that I have seen on suspect or known fakes.
AS far as stripe and top color... Burgundy was not available with Black stripes
The car should have RED stripes, and actually DID have RED STRIPES! I knew there was something to the traces of RED when I saw the photos of the trunk jamb.

Nice catch! Never saw that until you metioned it.
Yeah, I'd a kept them red for sure.
-
Good eye James. This is the 3rd Burgundy car I have seen now with red stripes, but the first with a black vinyl top. I would think a customer would have had to pre-pay for such a color combo, since it may have been tough for the dealer to move the car if the customer didn't follow through.

Exactly what the default stripe color was with Burgundy isn't clear from the Color Accents Chart. As noted, a few 67 67 cars have been found with red per the chart but most have white. It has been stated that interior color was not a factor but a few combos have a footnote based on interior color: the default stripe for 10 10 is stated to be white unless it has a black interior, then red. 69 69 cars had black stripes unless a red interior was specified; then red stripes. Assuming the JL8 car below was correctly restored, it may be that it received white stripes because of the white interior. I have never seen a revised chart; it always incorrectly listed black stripes for 71 71 cars.

My burgundy car has white stripes and black interior and is built before this. Seems strange most have white unless there was a way they were specified and would it not kick in the dash for special paint on the tag??

The RED stripe with 10 10 -black interior did not apply to Z28, CORRECT?
Or let me ask Has there ever been an original black Z found with RED stripes?
Bill if your car had a black roof I will bet it would have had RED stripes, there is really nothing odd regarding red stripes with a black roof, a black SS with a black Vtop got RED stripes as well.
I WISH a BLACK Z with a BLACK interior got RED STRIPES!!!!

Well who knows. The chart heading states: Sport Striping [RPO D90] Front Accent Striping [RPO DX1] Fender Striping [RPO D96]. Why wouldn't it apply to Z/28?
I know of three Z/28s special ordered with non-normative stripe color: 69 69 with white, 71 71 with black, 72 72 with black. All have confirming docs. I think the silver Z did not have a special paint code. Also vaguely recall a 57 57 Z with black stripes but no proof it was built that way.
-
I would like to have a gold white stripe or silver white stripe Z... Actually Black with bright Blue stripes would be my preference.
-
There's only the one burgundy Z with red stripes.
I have watched for years for evidence that any other burgundy Z had red stripes. Several original paint cars have showed up - white stripes. I'm not convinced there was red stripes on this car - that red on the trunk lip seems to be on top of the white.
-
But it sure looks good.
-
White stripes on a burgundy car makes 10 times more sense than red stripes.

BTW-there is a guy with project 69 Z/28 on FB and from the pics it looks to be burgundy with red stripes. major project though. I will see if he can send me a pic

I just wanted to throw this out there. I don't know if these cars originally came from the factory painted like this but I have seen in the past in my local area a '69Z, black with red stripes; from what I remember the interior was black. The other car, which I think had a better chance of being painted like it came from the factory, was a '69 SS L89 convertible in burgundy with red hockey stick stripes and black top. I think it had a black interior also.

Sold for $56.5k. Seems like a pretty good deal for a fun driver.
