Title: How late into the 69 model year could you get a car in black?

I thought I had read they discontinued black towards the middle of 69. Or maybe you could get it but it would be a - - ?

I saw this tag posted on FB, and just struck me that I haven't seen a car that late with 10 10 code.

Based on note 3 (quoted below) under the exterior paint color code table via the 'decode' section, I read that to mean that Tuxedo Black was available throughout the MY; not aware of any other restrictions, but maybe there was?

Well maybe it is legit then. Maybe special ordered the black in September of 69. and that is why it is not -- since it is not special paint. I went over that page, I  must have glanced over that when reading about paint. thanks

I have quite a bit of dealer ordering info for '69 and confusion reigns.

Black was discontinued during the 1968 model year. However the initial release of the 1969 Camaro Showroom Album lists 18 colors with black at the top of the list. Several colors are flagged "check availability before ordering": 10, 40, 51, 61, 63 and 67. A later rev sheet for the album removes the flags from 51, 61 and 67. There was also a document that designated certain colors as “Special Order” by assembly plant.

For Van Nuys those were 10, 40, 51, 61, 67; two tones 53-51, 51-53, 61-63.

For Norwood those were 40, 63; two-tone 61-63. What “Special Order” meant wasn’t clear.

Dealers could start placing orders July 1, 1968; an early black Z/28 I know of [N511xxx 10 10] was ordered about July 24, 1968. At that time, black appeared to be an RPO color. Sometime later, rev 0 of the US showroom brochure was released. Black [10], Butternut Yellow [40] and Champagne [63] are not listed. They are also not listed in rev 1. The Canadian rev doesn't list colors. 10, 40, 63 are also not listed in the dealer ordering data. But they were available. In checking our db, from the start of production through the end of 1968 at both plants there are a very few of those colors. They are not designated as special paint.

As of January 1969 10, 40, 63 became available at extra cost; $12.65.

The only reason I can think of for at 'discouraging' the selection of black paint during those years is that perhaps the warranty claims against the black painted cars was getting too expensive for them... (everyone know that many people consider and expect 'black paint' to be 'perfect'...  :)

IMO, being in the hot south, 'black' is my least preferred color for an auto...  I've had one and it was my first and last one... :)

I want a black over blue 69 Z28... is it matching numbers? 
I have only seen 3 -1969 Z28 cowl tags with blk over blue guts.
Last one was ALSO a late car... it even had the 6500 redline tach.
