Title: finding matching vin or cowl tag
Post by: dab67 on December 16, 2006, 08:53:37 PM
Now this may be a real stupid question but,,,,,,,,
Is there a way to find the matching numbers for a firsti generation car if you only have either the cowl tag or the vin tag secured to the car but not both? Is ther a way to find out what information should be on the missing tag?

If the VIN tag is missing, you still have the two hidden VINs that will tell you the sequence number and plant, and you'd have to check other clues to see if it was a six or V-8. If the cowl tag is missing, the VIN can tell you when it was built, and you have to dig for clues to figure out paint, trim, and options.

THANKS JOHN:

Was curious if they tied together somehow. What types of clues would you look for to see whether the car was a 6 or 8? Shocks? Radiator, size of sway bar?

I think the quickest visual clue would be cable-vs.-lever throttle linkage.
