Title: YH Wheel Date
Post by: L78 steve on January 11, 2016, 02:35:16 PM
Would it be out of the norm or impossible for a 04C car to have Jan 28 YH wheels?

Less then 3 months? certainly not impossible, and probably not out of the norm (whatever the 'norm' is).. :)

"The norm" for April in my small db is late February YH wheels.

I was around back in those days and most guys wanted Goodyear tires. I'm sure many dealers were agreeable to swapping wheels with another car in stock to make a sale. If your car has 5 matching wheels maybe that's what happened.

Well my car came to me with a set of FW's. I found a set of Jan 28 YH's and am wondering if they will work date wise. The late Feb wheels have eluded me for some time now.

Some Z/28s [and COPO 9737] were delivered with Firestone Sport Car 200 tires; most were built with Goodyear E70 x 15 Wide Tread GTs. I'm sure more than a few guys found one they liked in stock but didn't want Firestones so they were swapped.

A bud had a new one with Firestones. It was a racing division tire not sold through most company stores.

Steve,   My 03B build Z has all originals YH wheels.  Late Feb and the spare is a Jan.  I would shoot for the Feb's if you can find them.

Steve, There are several threads talking about that era of YH wheels.  (I searched March YH).  It seems there were NO march YH rims produced, and that the only two batches produced suitable were Jan. 26-29 and Feb. 26-28.  I think I would consider if the build date and VIN put the car early or late 04C.  If it were toward the first of 04C, I would think it would be a better chance of the car receiving Jan. rims.  If there were time elapsed and toward the end, it would stand a better chance for Feb. YH rims.  Jan. wheels would probably have been gone from the pile!  I personally don't think there was a big window for a range, normally pretty close.

I have never seen or heard of an 05A with anything else than a 4-18 or 4-21 YH.  Other build dates are different in their own right according to that pile of wheels in the bin.

My 2C,
Bryan

The NCRS report states that the Prod. date is 4/28/69 so I guess that would be a late 04C. Were there any 04D's?

My 04B Van Nuy's built Z had a Jan YH wheel  (K-1-9 1 28) for the spare.   The other wheels were replaced over the years.
