A few questions please
1. Were the spark plug wire retainers natural, then dipped in rubber?
2. Are the valve cover hold-downs (whats this called?) and bolts painted with the covers (orange for L48) or natural?
3. I have a picture of my passenger side retainer, can anyone show me a pic of the driver side I'm missing, installed and painted correctly as original?
Thanks!
Andy

my originals were pretty well rusted and missing the rubber - I did not find any indication that they were painted
I am under the understanding that the bolts and spreaders were on the motor when it was painted, then removed to install the plug wire brackets

This (If it attaches properly) 69 L48 Nova picture clearly shows they were oversprayed heavy with engine paint.

interesting
Being that they were installed on the assembly line and not at the engine plant, I would have wonder if they were hit with a spray can after being installed

That would have to be a day 0 Nova pic with that much paint on the exhaust.
That was Willow Run - they may have had a different process. Small blocks shouldn't have paint on the exhaust manifolds.
Note that the paint is already coming off the master cylinder.
Chris,
That clip in your first pic is for the oil or temp sender wire.

That is the plug wire retainer behind the AC compressor
do the plug wires sit on top of the water temp sensor wire in that bracket?
