Hi,
First, a huge thanks to CRG for putting together the most amazing collection of information/data on the first gen. It has been my go-to source while restoring my car. Question: My engine is stamped V1011DZ on the pad, but no VIN. There is also no VIN stamped on the rough cast area by the oil filter. The car is a Los Angeles build, dated 10C. One source I believe to be reliable has told me that the L.A. cars always had the VIN stamped on the pad, that only Norwood cars resorted to the alternate location out of the inconvenience of the alternator being in the way. I'm sorry if there are posts on this topic already, I can never seem to find them in searches. Thanks in advance for the replies.

Van Nuys engine VIN stamping was inconsistent at that time. Some were on the pad, some at the oil filter, a few not stamped.

I know of an early LOS Z/28 built 09C (of 1968), 9L502xxx that has the partial down by the oil filer.

Hello and welcome !
Is your block currently painted ? Even just one coat of paint will obscure these numbers as they were not stamped as hard as the block pad was. Often leaving several numbers half-punched. If painted, rub off by hand using a paint remover/thinner and or brass wire brush.
Mine was hard to see even after this method was used. It appeared more to me after several angles in a good light and using my phone camera which allowed me to zoom in on it.
Can you post a pic of your stamped date off the pad ?
