Hi all!!! this is my dilema, Ive been searching for a set of 041 heads and have either come up with nothing or one's with the wrong dates( I have a original 350 SS, oct 68 build, and want to keep it that way). i cant get a clear answer on this, did ANY SS 350's come with 186 heads? Ive had some people say they will work, i do know that but i want to keep it the way it was born(im crazy like that). thanks all for you input!!!!!

I can't say for sure, but there are 186 heads with 1.94 intake valves. I would say yes
-
Jerry's '69 book says that both 041 and 186 heads were used on SS350's (with 1.94/1.5 valves).

Alan Colvin's Chevrolet by the Numbers supports it. I have seen both on L48 69's.

Ok, i have my eye on a set, correct dates, they are a little pricey and i did not want to waste $ on something that would be incorrect for a future full blown restoration. I knew i could count on you guys! Ive talked to a few people and they said only the 041's would be correct for my car. Thanks all!

Of all the 69 L48's in the database (over 800), only five have 186 heads. Of that, one is mismatched (one 041 head and one 186 head), two have question marks beside the entry and two "may" be original. Of those two, one is a LA car from mid November, 1968 and the other is a Norwood car from early February, 1969.
Now, of the other L48's we have, there's not a lot of info on heads, but 30 of them have 041's.

Ed,
Thanks for the info! It amazes me that of the thousands of 041 heads out there cast in oct 68 i cant find a single one!

you've gotta be patient, Capt... :)
and I owe you a Thanks.. :) ... I was at the Autofest in Nashville last Saturday, and each time I saw small block '69 heads, I stopped and inquired about the numbers.. (thinking of your 041!)... well, I didn't find your head, BUT.. in my search, I accidentally came across a matched set of 186 heads which are *perfect* for replacing the heads I sold off my Z28 back in the seventies!! .. Now I'm just hoping they turn out to be good and rebuildable.. :)
I've been looking for good dates for 186 so long, I'd given up and *settled* on some not quite as good, and I probably wouldn't have bothered checking numbers on the heads had I not been thinking about your need for an 041..
