Title: BL code rear axle in 68Z28
Post by: JohnKY on April 16, 2021, 12:17:13 AM
Looking to verify that a non posi. 3.07 12 bolt was available to order on a 1968 Z28.

 Yes? No?

OK, thanks Bert.
Not many ordered, I'm sure, and probably not much fun to drive.

I took the 4.56 rear out my 68 Z/28 & installed a 3.31 into the car to go to the Street Machine Nationals one year. I'm glad mine came with 4.56s. 3.31s are not fun...not for me anyways....Joe

I think with an M20 trans, one could 'live' with a 3.55 gear in a Z28, but I would not even try anything at 3.31 or worse....

There are 4 Z28's in the database with the 3.07 axle. Three are documented and (a 68) even has the M21 transmission!

I believe the best mileage my friend's 1968 Z28 ever achieved was when he went skiing in Mammoth Lakes, CA and got 18 mpg, with 4.10 gears and F60-15 Goodyear tires.  Years later, we drove up to Mammoth in my 1998 Z28 with a 6-speed and got 30 mpg.  In daily driving on the street in the Los Angeles area, the 1998 Z28 would only get about 13 mpg as sitting in traffic takes its toll on mileage.
