Title: 1/4 Window "Air Conditioned" Decal Type, Location, Applied?
Post by: BlackoutSteve on October 23, 2011, 01:29:49 AM
Hey guys, there are 3 types of "Air Conditioned" decals that are for sale by the usual suppliers.
Apparently, they were applied to some of the years of 1st gen Camaros' 1/4 windows and not others.

Here are the 3 types of GM A/C decals that I have.

The top I am told is a 68 & later..
the middle is somewhere up to 1967..
..and the bottom is a non-original decal that was never used.

Both sides? Driver's only? Used at all?
Can someone shine some light on what is correct please.

I don't believe decals were used in any First Gen Camaro windows/glass. According to this Research Report by Rich Fields  (http://www.camaros.org/glass.shtml) the only exception to the standard sand-blasted glass marks was a '68 Astro-Ventilation mark which was fired-on white ceramic paint. The report goes on to say that decals are incorrect. I am assuming this applies to the bow tie decals as well. Below is a excerpt from the report...

Marking Method
LOF sand-blasted almost all glass marks with a stencil. The only exception was the early '68 model "Astro-Ventilation" mark, which used fired-on white ceramic paint [a thank you for this correction goes to Dan DelGratta of LOF]. Decals are incorrect. Also incorrect is reproduction glass that uses baked on black enamel for marking (often seen on modern glass, and still prevalent for the AS1 mark even on repo glass that has had "correct" marks added). Note that there are some stencil differences from one plant to another. LOF Plant 16, in particular, used a distinctly different stencil from the other LOF plants that supplied Camaro glass. Consistent marking patterns include:

My 68 came with Air but no decal.

Thanks Marty, but do you think that they would have used a 1/4 window glass blasted with a blue bowtie for cars only with the C60 option? The applying of a decal sounds more plausable to me.
Was the factory selective with glass that had bowties for A/C, as they were with adding tinted glass or not?

Maybe Camaros didn't get any decal or etching, but certainly other GMs did.. Were they etched I wonder.

Thanks for the link.. The CRG site really needs a "search" function.

Those decals/stickers were never used on Camaros - they were used on '63-'66 Corvettes with A/C.

I find that advanced search works better than just search.
