Title: Deluxe interior trunk mat part numbers?
Post by: abiddle on September 25, 2015, 02:08:29 PM
I don't see the trunk mat in the 1969 AIM for deluxe interior Z87. I have a trunk mat I bought maybe 10 years ago that I thought was NOS, but obviously I don't know for sure what's NOS. An ebay auction started today for an NOS mat, different numbers than mine. Does anyone have any thoughts on this?

Up for sale I have a 1969 Camaro NEW " NOS " RARE Factory Fit Rubber Trunk Mat. My research tells me that this trunk mat came only in the 1969 Camaro's that had Deluxe Interiors. It is a RUBBER mat with a Green & Black Houndstooth pattern, it is NOT vinyl like the Reproductions. The GM# 87102202A is printed on the back, as seen in the pictures.

Thanks - Andy

I pulled my trunk mat out of the goodies closet. The part number stamped in paint is 85050602A. It doesn't have GM stamped anywhere. There is a pressed stamp in a corner 9293. Shape, size, contours and angles all appear the same as the ebay item, except mine does not have a cut-out for the spare tire boltdown rod. The only other difference I could see was the ebay item seems to have a shadow in the closeup view of the houndstooth pattern, mine has very little of this - but I can find a little when I look at a picture in highdef closeup. Shadows are all to the right of each part in the pattern.
In my opinion this ebay item was made by the same manufacturer, just based on the pictures. I don't know if there's any reproductions being made like this. Still doesn't mean these are NOS.

I didn't see 'GM' on his part either.. and your part *appears* the same, in spite of the differing PN.

My car has it's original rubber trunk mat (with tears)...  I don't recall if I have seen a GM Pn stamped on the back or not...  if I get time, I can try to remove it (without tearing it more).. and check for you...  if I can do that and find a pn, I'll post here again.

PS.  I ordered an 'NOS/reproduction'?? trunk mat a few years ago via ebay..   when it came in, I was very disappointed.. nothing like the original... not the same material...  was made of thin vinyl rather than the thick rubber of the original.   The seller did refund my $$ and take the part back.

Here's the part number on the trunk mat that came in my '69 with standard interior.  Curious how many part numbers were used?

Car hasn't been restored, but who knows if this is factory original or has been replaced.

Standard interior should not even have a trunk mat, IIRC.

Not included with std interior, but was it a standalone option as well?  (most items were back then)...

Not a separate option either.
Service part.

OK...  I removed my mat and did find a 'partial' PN on the back.  Photo below.  This mat was in my Z28/RS (Deluxe interior/trim) when I purchased it in 1976, and had all these tears in it then (the car has been stored in my basement garage since 1980, so no new tears since then!)..  I believe it to be the original one which came in the car.  Note:  I have attempted to minimize new tears by using a glue/tape from the back side where the mat was torn... you can see those places in the photos.

Can you post a close-up of the pattern on the top side?
Thanks!

That looks like the basketweave of a 60s ford, maybe a Fairlane but I don't know my fords. Sorry, I hope that doesn't sound rude. I was expecting to see something more like houndstooth.

Charlie - the part number on your mat starts with 8 and finishes with 02A, same as mine and also the ebay auction mat. This doesn't mean anything conclusive nor infers originality. But I think its more than coincidence and we can at least agree these mats were made by the same mfg, sometime in the past. :)

I don't see the trunk mat in the 1969 AIM for deluxe interior Z87.

The trunk mat isn't in the Assembly Manual because it was released and installed by Fisher Body; only Chevrolet parts appear in the A.I.M.
