Title: 69 SS Hood Hinge question
Post by: 9T4Z on July 03, 2007, 04:23:10 PM
Is there any way to quickly identify the original GM hood hinges from the aftermarket... I know they need to be painted "black Phosphate" but was wondering if there are GM part-numbers readily visible...

thanks in advance

Gary

My original '69 standard hinges have a "K" surrounded by three raised concentric circles on the head of the large rivets.

For what it's worth, my original '68 hinges (original SS hood) also have a "K" surrounded by three raised concentric circles on the head of the large rivets (3).

Some of the repo's have a "K" also stamped in them but its different in appearance. I believe that the GM ones sold now do not have the K stamp....but are better pieces. Its important to have a good set with the right springs for the application if you want a good hood fit. Buying used hinges can be an exercise in futility.

The GM ones being sold now have the K with mutliple circles around the K. My originals have 3 circles aorund the K.
