Dick Guldstrand will be driving Corvette #56 in Group 5 according to the participant list for the Sonoma Historics Jun 1-3 - good for him.

That is a great article in SCG - thanks to Craig and John.  I had not seen that before or at least didn't remember it.

I used to wonder how much slower would I be if I had a chance to drive Donohue's car?  at least 3-4 seconds a lap, I'm sure.
Of more interest would have been, if he had driven my old 67 and how much faster in it would he have been?

I raced agaiinst Paul at Mid-Ohio in 71 (Chaffey College camaro).  It poured rain for the first half of the race, then dried up, and we only had the rain tires we started with and they were in shreds by the time the race was over. Paul was 17th qualifier and I was 20th(although qualifying was never a big deal for us - just get on the grid). That's the race I saw him driving the camaro down the road later with the dump cans etc sticking out of the rear window. I think he drove it out from CA and then back!

Milt could, imo, hold his own with the factory guys.

This was the race that Dick Hoffman drove the Al Richards 67 camaro (my ex Mo Carter car) in with a camera mounted on the right front corner of the roof (incorrectly listed as a 68 in the starting grid).  He qualified a commendable 16th.

Also finishing 12th was long-time Corvette racer Andy Porterfield who finished 12th in a 68 camaro (a one-time early T/A effort).  Andy raced up and down the west coast for five decades, was twice SCCA National Corvette Champion, an SCCA executive, raced tube frame camaros in the eighties and nineties with SCCA and IMSA.  He also established a well known family business - Porterfirld Brake Products.  I raced against Andy at the at Westwood and Laguna Seca T/A races in 1980.

Sadlly, Andy passed away recently.  He was 80. Details on Andy's career are in the latest issue of Sports Car Digest.

Unless he has sold it, Hogan also has the 68 ex Rusty Jowett T/A camaro.  I spoke to him several years ago at I think Road America.

Wow, this was a killer car to go T/A racing with - way above what our gang brought to the track.  An 8th and 10th place was not too shabby, but maybe Gerry expected much more?

So what happened to this car after only a few T/A races?  Is Gerry still with us?

Last year the Chad Raynal pit was sort of "Race Central".  That T/A area is close to the grandstand and offers good viewing. The Raynal hospitality also is excellent.

Just looking to buy a few overcrew passes as they are sold at a discont compared to the regular admission tickets, so will have to be added on to crew lists.

Who might be entering their car at the Sonoma Historics June 1-3? I am trying to organize 4 or 5 "overcrew" passes for our gang.  If you can help it would be greatly appreciated.  My gang of "road warriors" will be arriving about Friday noonish.

Anyone else from this forum who might be attending?  Hope to see you there.

I have located the info that John Todds (is it Todd or Todds?) gave me over the phone around the year 2000.  If I have listed it correctly, here is what he gave me -

- 67 Camaro - driven by Derek Johnson - later sold to builder Don Duncan
- 69 Camaro (2 cars) - driven by Derek Johnson and Craig Fisher
- 70 Firebird - driven by both Fisher and Johnson - later sold to Tiny Lund
- 71 Camaro - driven by Dick Brown - later sold to Don Duncan
- 71 Camaro - driven by J Duval on BFG tires

One 69 Camaro was sold to a Hugh Dixon in Toronto (CASC member)

He gave me some ph.#'s for Duncan and Dick Brown, also for Peter Baselice - east coast vintage racer who had the 71 Duncan Camaro (Canadian Sunoco car) at that time.

Thanks to Ron, Jon, and Robert for this very complete summary of the above race.  I happened to attend this race with a friend on our way out to CA - an exploratory trip with the purpose of maybe moving out there.  I had acquired a press pass from Wheelspin News out of Ontario and actually sent them a race report.  I remember hanging around the Milt Minter pits for most of the race.  Minter was a hard charger who could give anyone a run for their money.

I note that Bernd Leckow was entered in this race.  He was the guy with the NSU that I had that great D sedan race at Mid-Ohio in October of 66 along with Chuck Dietrich.  Leckow just inched me out for 2nd.

I think this was the 2nd T/A race I attended, and I had no idea at that time I would be racing a camaro in 68.

Ok, am I correct in assuming that front suspension mounting points were stock from 66-68?  What was to be gained by changing them?

I wasn't aware the rules for 69 stated "upper front A arm suspension points can be moved, and for 70 both upper and lower can be moved" according to the above article.  Is this correct?

I'll admit I didn't read the rule book or pay much attention to those things.  As far as I know we raced our 67 with stock mounting points thru 72.

Is this stuff mentioned in the "Unfair Advantage" by Donohue?

Ken, did you get to know any of the Mo Carter crew?  I'm trying to contact a Ken Ball who also looked after Mo's Firestone tire operation.  Thanks.
