Title: 69Z Daytona yellow with yellow interior
Post by: lcmc on March 11, 2008, 01:40:11 PM
I am looking at a Z that has the 714 yellow interior code. How many Z's were built this way? It is a non matching numbers car and priced close to a matching numbers car. I want to make sure the rarity makes up for the price.

I too almost bought a yellow/yellow houndstooth 69Z in the early 90's that was a resto project that the owner lost interest/no time to finish. However he also had a 69 Shelby GT500KR convertible mustang(big block) that was all original that I didn't hesitate to buy instead(stole it back then for $15K!!!) it's restored now, but is a garage queen. I'd be curious to know the #'s on the Z/28 myself(just how rare did I pass up?)

Common question no one has the answer to.

Yellow interiors are not as rare as you may think.

I had always heard there were only a few hundred yellow interior cars total. If that is true I'd think a Z would be fairly rare.

I have a 69 Z, red with a white vinyl top, and white stripes. It's also a rally sport. I think it's a fairly rare combination, but I  don't think the rarity makes it any more valuable than other Z's Just my opinion. I think rare is only a factor if whatever is rare is also desirable to most people. I really don't care if a Camaro has a fold down rear seat, or a rear radio antenna. The 302 is what I was always really after.

I was told by a guy last year who has a yellow /yellow Z, that his father in law used to work at GM and said that only about 300 "camaros" were made with this color combination. Obviously, the number of Z's are far less as Z's were about 17% of all production camaros. Obviously, I have no way to verify if this statement is true, but there are not many out there that I have seen.
I am lucky enough to have one myself which I am currently restoring. All numbers matching, fold down rear seat, tilt, POP, and original sales order. It has a Black vinyl top and is an LA car with 55,000 miles.
I have only seen one car that has this color and option combination and I keep up on the camaro market pretty closely
I believe that it is indeed a rare car.

jl8dale,
Is that the car sold new in Walla Walla?

I think that 300 number is way off. A total SWAG from the database says at least 700, with a real total probably even double that.

We have data on 7 Z's with that interior.

Yes Kurt, it was sold new in Walla Walla. Do you have this car in your database?
Like I said, I have no verification on what the guy said, you just don't see too many of them.
What other combinations in your database have less than 7?
Just curious.

Yes, from when it was on ebay.
As Paul indicated, lots of combos are 1 off in the db. Depends what you ask it. :)

Color is a subjective thing when it comes to value.  Matching numbers is an objective thing.  Not sure your thought is "apples for apples".

Hey Kurt,
Just curious as to how many Z's are currently in CRG's database?

Not to keep you busy with supplying numbers Kurt, but how many of the 1384 are 1969 Z's?

What information would you need for me to include all of my cars into your database?

Thanks.

I also have a yellow 69 Z with yellow houndstooth. IMO, rarity does make up for price a little. I think it is a great color combo!!

There's one here in LR that probably isnt in the db.  Also last spring, I saw a red/black 69 at a show with a 76/714 tag on it, but dont recall if it was a 33/77 car or not.

1006 69 Z's in the db right now.
Be careful, "only 7 yellow on yellow Z's" is combining 3 options. That's getting really speculative when you get to that level.
