Decoding/Numbers / Re: Possible 1 of 1 67 Indy 500 replica?
« on: June 14, 2019, 02:04:55 AM »
Thanks everyone for the feedback.  I’ll try and post some pictures this weekend.  While I was cleaning out the rear quarters I found a scrap of newspaper from Dec 1991 with red overspray on it.  While it could have been an old (very old paper someone used, it is also likely that is roughly when the car was painted.

I would love to run down the dealer of record.  I had planned to just work my way back in time by contacting different state BMVs and asking of they can help me with the search.  I did not know about this NCRS database; that will save me a ton of time!

Decoding/Numbers / Possible 1 of 1 67 Indy 500 replica?
« on: May 29, 2019, 09:25:41 PM »
I purchased a 67 convertible a couple months ago.  I was looking for driver quality and in need of a little work so I could teach my sons a few things about working on cars.  As we began to strip out the interior we learned that the car which is now red with a black interior (and black top) once was a white car with a blue interior.  I started to really dig into the cowl tag and learned the car was one of the 100 (+/-) 67 pace car replicas.

I would paste a picture of the cowl tag but I can’t figure that out (just puts in )?

But here’s what it says (line by line)

04B       R
67-12667      NOR108367
732-Z           C-1
D 2MG   3SL
-061A

So from what I can tell this meets the color, date code, factory, and -061A part of being a pace car replica.  What is odd is that this car was a 327 with a power glide transmission (or at least that’s how I think the tag decodes).  I have read that pace car replica cars were all the SS type and SS cars did not come with the 327.

Sadly, the car does not have its original engine or transmission.  I wasn’t looking for an original numbers matching car, but am certainly surprised to learn how different this car was from how it is today.

I’m curious to know if I decoded the tag correct and if this is a previously unknown option set for a pace car.

If someone can tell me how to post the pic of the tag I would be more than happy to do so.  Thanks.

General Discussion / Opinion needed - worth it?
« on: March 11, 2019, 09:55:39 PM »
I’m looking for a driver quality car, convertible, manual.  Not overly concerned with numbers matching.  This car is actually an RS (look at tail lights) but otherwise not very original.  I’m waiting on pre inspection results and appraisal but wondered what folks on this forum think.

Seems consistently priced, save for a little negotiation room.

Worth it?
