General Discussion / Two Black 1969 Z28s!
« on: March 09, 2007, 11:00:27 PM »
Back from the midwest road trip.  Did two certifications but the kicker here is both cars were real black 69 Z28s.  I'm sure this will never happen again.  Rare, my eye!!

Second car took me to Rapid City, SD.  This area is beautiful and the people were so friendly.  I hope I get to go back there.  After I was done appraising car 2, I was able to get out to Mt. Rushmore, and the Crazy Horse monument.  What a breath taking place.  Makes you proud to be an American, that's for sure.

Oak City and the Big Easy are next.

General Discussion / ZL-1 Engine Found
« on: February 28, 2007, 08:36:04 PM »
Just a quick heads up.  Have just inspected the original ZL-1 engine block to car #40.  Has been in the Baltimore area for the past 37 years.  Also have some original paperwork on the car.  This is the real deal, standard bore and never blown up.

Amazing,

General Discussion / History Needed For Z28, N513449
« on: February 17, 2007, 02:21:03 PM »
Looking for anyone why might have some history on a gold 1969 Z28, vin N513449.  One of my customers owns the car now.  He bought it from a flipper guy up in NY.  Was told it was a number's match car in good running order.  We received the engine from this car last week to do a complete rebuild, balance and blueprint.  The car had been in storage until we could get to it.

What we found once we opened the engine was very troubling.  Once the valve covers and intake were off, there was a milky gravy type oil in the galley and cylinder heads.  Then we spotted a wide area of epoxy and weld on the side wall of the lifter galley.  This engine block was severly cracked at one time and someone tried to fix it incorrectly, threw it back together and sold the car.

We are going to do our best to repair this engine but it does not look good.  And the value of this vehicle will go down the toilet without its original engine.  It's an early production car with no X codes and no paperwork.

We are hoping that someone out there in Camaro Land might be able to help us to find out exactly what happened to this engine and why.  We are in the process of hot tanking the block now and will pressure test to find out all of the collateral damage.

Any help appreciated.

Thanks,

Jerry

General Discussion / Ben & Lana Wenzel in Automobile Accident
« on: November 24, 2005, 12:20:23 AM »

I just wanted to let all of you know that Ben and Lana Wenzel were in an automobile accident yesterday.  I don't know all of the details right now, only that Ben is okay but Lana is in the hospital.  I will post any new information as it becomes available.  Ben has been like a big brother and mentor to me for many years, please keep both Ben and Lana in your prayers over this Thanksgiving weekend.

For those that don't know Dave and Ben Wenzel, they race a 1967 Z28 in stock eliminator that Ben purchased brand new (only 602 were produced).  The Wenzel Brothers had an incredible 2005 season winning the division and finishing 8th in world points.

General Discussion / Old Reliable 1969 Z28 & Vegas Race Trip
« on: November 06, 2005, 04:33:26 PM »
Mike Strickler was asking me about the 1969 Z28 that his dad drive during the 1969 race season.  I remember that someone in the CRG group mentioned something about the original car being found.  I thought it was Bill.  Can anyone help?

I just got back last night from Las Vegas.  2509 miles from door step to door step.  Made it home in three days driving about 800+ miles a day.  A lot of driving but had a great time.  Ben Wenzel and I beat up on some good running 396 4-speed Novas for the class win in E/Stock and D/Stock.  Everyone was amazed to see a little 302 do so well in class eliminations.
