Title: Head stampings
Post by: crobjones2 on April 15, 2008, 02:05:33 AM
I started disassembling my motor and I found some perculiar stampings
Does anyone know what they mean?
These are on 3947041 heads with an E229 cast date.
one is a L stamped on the middle nub just below the valve cover - only on the driver's side
the other appears to be 334  S on the outside of the head next to the casting symbol on the front of the engine - on both heads

Thanks for the info
Chris

Chris, they're probably a rebuilders code. They stamp numbers all over the place on these engines!!

The engine has only had one rebuild. And I rebuilt it when the gear on the cam - distributor broke.
If it is a rebuilders stamp - then it must have been when i sent the heads out to get hardened seats.
Thanks Ed - I knew someone would know what they were
