Title: Keeping it original
Post by: AlexFolino1968 on January 31, 2024, 03:05:09 PM
Hello, Alex from Pittsburgh Pennsylvania.  Bought a 1968 Camaro in 2005 when i was 18 years old.  Now im 36 and its time to start restoring the car.  Its a basket case but ill get it done.  Car was a 230 3 on tree tripoli turquoise car.  Was going to do the standard 350 4 speed like everyone else but after long consideration, the 6cylinder will do just fine.  I came across a running 250 out of a 68 that im going to put in.  I have a 4 speed manual trans that im going to put in instead of the 3 on tree.  Thats the only "modification".  Going to put car to its original KK paint and leave the dog dish caps on.  Ill post pictures when i can.

I'm with ya, but that 3 tree deal is the coolest part of the car. Anyone can have floor shift.

Yes it is... and somewhat of a theft deterrent, especially younger thieves. If it's not an automatic, they don't know how to drive a stick.

Appreciate all the comments but I just don’t care for column shift.

Dare to be different!! There are many of us who really like a 3-speed column shifted vehicle, and it's one feature that is rarely seen any more.

Great thief deterrent. There's many that wouldn't know how to shift it :)

If you’re using a Saginaw that was behind a six banger it will have a 3.11 first gear.
With a 3.08 rear diff, that will give a 9.58 low gear. Should make it feel very peppy!

in case you or next owner wants to put it back original.

Without a doubt.  When i took the car apart in 2005 i still have every nut and bolt, labeled etc..  Whatever i dont use goes back in the GM totes and to the attic.
