General Discussion / Re: Front coil springs
« on: August 26, 2013, 03:09:45 AM »
I replaced the springs that were in my small block when I bought it. Pretty sure those were big block springs. That's 40 years ago. They had a free height of 16.5 inches. The small block springs I just replaced them with are 14.98 inches. I know spring dia. matters but hope this helps.

Try a auto parts store, go figure, like O'Rielly's, Advance or Auto Zone. They all sell Duplicolor.

Hi Claus, we'll need to know the horse power, carburetor and if it a manual or standard transmission. Timing can be 2 btdc,4 btdc or tdc and idle can be 600,700 or 750.. Jim

Not acceptable. Ordered another set, this set is a matched pair.

General Discussion / 6308 springs
« on: June 11, 2013, 03:42:42 AM »
I just received a new set of 6308's, they're a bit longer than spec but not as long as the 6320. I'm ok with that. The length of both springs are equal but the coil is longer on one. I would think the should be identical. Has anyone come across this, is it acceptable?

Maintenance / Re: Removing Harmonic Balancer
« on: May 24, 2013, 02:11:54 AM »
Hi Franco

You can try hitting the puller screw with a hammer. That may be enough to pop the balancer and get it moving. Is it rusted or something weird like shear the key? I'd be careful with heat, you don't want to damage the rubber between the hub and outer part of the balancer.

If you decide to have one built do your home work and don't think everybody wants the work. There's a NPD near me so I stopped in to get some referrals for body and paint. First person, nice shop, nice work but after initial visit he never answered his phone or returned messages. Scratch one. Next person, nice shop saw some of his work, seemed capable, $40/hr, came to the house to look at the car. "Call me when your ready" he said. I do so and he then proceded to blow me off. Scratch two. I wanted to use AMD so on my way to pick it up in VA. I stopped at a big restro shop. $75/hr. Got the shop tour etc. They had a lot more cars they were working on than employees. Picked up the sheet metal and asked them about the restro shop. Not good, large deposit and every month they need more money and your car never gets finished. Customer law suits. Scratch three. Gave the car and $1000 to the next guy, 6 months later he started to work on when I told him I was coming to get it. Scratch four. Didn't like what five wanted to do. Finally stopped in a hot rod shop I had passed. He sent me to a parts store where a lot guys buy their supplies. Four names and who the felt was the best. Bingo and only $25/hr. Great workvery pleased but my wasn't to keen on giving him $1000 every week. So all the sheet metal is now on but the car sits in the garage now. Hope this helps, don't mean to discourage you, just give you my experience.

Thanks for the input. I have to admit that I haven't got the slightest idea what all those initials mean, DPLF, TDS, DDL, R-M, DP. What about the black primer on new sheet metal, remove it or scuff it up and prime over it? Thanks again.

I'm going to blast my sub frame with black beauty, any need to prep the metal before paint? I plan to use a etching primer. Also any thoughts about using a bed liner producct on the under side of the body. It'll be a driver not a numbers matcher any more.

I looked for reviews and the BBB, never thought about Ebay. Thanks for the other referals.

Anyone have anything chromed at Chrome East in Concord NC.  Or maybe a suggestion for a chrome shop near Charlotte.
