The Charlotte Autofair is this weekend. If you are coming to the AACA judging school on Friday, I'll be helping with registration, so let me know you are there. On Saturday at the national meet, I'll be judging that morning. (Don't worry I never judge Camaros at national meets!) But in the afternoon, I'll be the old guy sitting with the yellow 68 at the bottom of the hill with the HNR badge that says Phillip on it. ;D

Take lots of pics my friend...of Camaro's of course, & don't forget about your little cream puff. Have a great time & a great event!!!

Stay a few more days and take in the NHRA Z-Max Four Wide Nationals. We are heading there to race next Wednesday. It's a four day national event starting on Thursday.
And the real bonus is Ben and Dave Wenzel will be racing there 1967 Z28 too which Ben bought new, won the Indy US nationals in 1967 and they are still racing the car today. Talk about racing legends.........what a bonus to have them still involved in motorsports
Hope to see some of you there.

Good luck Jerry. Hope you have another fine season. I had the pleasure meeting the Wenzel brothers here in Mich at US 131 Motorsports Park in Martin Mich. One of thee best dragstrips in the US right now, beautiful facility. A super nice 67 Z-28, unreal. Hope to see Jerry at US131 someday.

Maybe I'll get there one day,
Especially now since they're giving diesel fuel away...........LOL. $4.32+ a gallon here in Long Island, NY. I'll stock up.

Never been there Phillip but need to make plans to attend next year. Would love to see a follow up after the show of some pics, # of cars, etc.
And good luck Jerry! Was at Jerry's on Sunday as he was helping me again and I had the pleasure of hearing that 67 Z D-stocker come to life. Wow, it sounds wicked.
-
Jerry, diesel is still $3.99 at the station right down from Z-Max. Plan to fill up before you go home.
Marty, yes, and if they will let me make pictures Friday night, I'll send pics of Mr Henrick's Camaros.
I will make pictures, and generally there are some on the AACA site about a week afterwards.
-

Wow, I'm jealous. That's an expensive tour but should be a good time, we need lots of pics.

True, but it's all tax deductible, except for the chicken and green beans! The proceeds go to the museum.
-
Thanks Phillip...but what's with this Mr. Hendrick's stuff...thought you guys were on a first name bases...? ;D
Ditto on the good luck Jerry! Make us proud and lots of pics!
-
Oh well, no pics in the heritage building. He had 10 first gens and around 15 later years. The two first vins on the new camaro and the first two converts were there.
I did learn that I know one of his mechanics. They told me that when he brings in a car from BJ, they go over it and fix the things that are wrong. Also, most of the cars were bought through private owners.
Maroman, I think there were about 130 there. Too bad it didn't sell out. >:(
-
Thanks for the update, I wish I could have been there. How was the rubber chicken?

Actually, it was pretty good! And because we are in NC, a pig had to be sacrificed (BBQ)!
-
I understand there was a bad hail storm down there last night , hope all is well.
-
Just topped off the tank in my truck before we head out on Wed morning. Diesel went from 3.99 a gallon to 4.10 over night. No one in the media is talking about these rising fuel prices........I don't get it.
Have gone through the valves and carb on the new engine we installed last weekend. Cleaned out the trailer, etc. All looks good including the weather for next week at Zmax. 450 miles for us and about a seven hour ride.
If you have not been this is one of the nicest race tracks in the country.

The hail storm was south and west of Charlotte. The speedway is north in the Concord area. There was bad rain and wind, but everyone was gone or in the trailer by then. Worst thing is always the traffic. ::)
The show was great! There were several nice Camaros. ;D
The Autofair drew big crowds with lots of vendors doing well. That's a great sign for car lovers!
Jerry is right. The Z-Max track is an incredible facility!
BTW, Jerry watch for Barney when you cross the state line!
-
Phillip...It just isn't fair... You guys having all the fun...a guy from way down west, is chomping at the bit to experience what you guys take for granted. One of these years my friend...I plan on showing up un-announced! Can't wait to met you and the Mrs...............................
-
Running around like a nut trying to get ready. Pulling out at first light on Wed morning. Will be watching for Barney Fife this time. The other good news is I'll have a Federal DEA agent in the truck with me. I should let him do the drive by.............LOL. My buddy has serious credentials........40 years in the police dept and has a Federal task force. He wants me to drive by while he moons them. Yeah, that'll happen.

Marty, show up announced and I'll get you tickets.... Actually, we don't take it for granted. Beyond the Speedway workers, we have over 400 members and each family unit works at least 22 hours. My wife and I generally average over 40 hours. ((And as you know, I've got a time consuming day job!) But as anyone from other venues, like the Nationals, etc., will tell you, it is a lot of fun and you get to meet some great, "salt of the earth" people. ;D
Jerry, so you got one of them federal "revenewers with you-ens". ;) How about getting him to teach Barney how to move traffic on Bruton Smith Blvd! ::) --Hopefully, this stormy weather will move on through today! ;D

So how was the racing Jerry and an update?
-
Jerry,
In NC we got a new law. If your license tag has a trim ring on it it cannot cover any letters,#, ect. Our Snooper Troopers here love out of state tags and if they stop you it is 99% that you get a ticket for something. I don,t know your route but if you are taking interstate 85 through Durham double beware, they love to search out of state riggs here.
-
Uh-Oh, rain moving in late Friday and storms predicted Saturday at Z-Max! >:(
-
Wind gusts to 36 MPH and tornado watch! Welcome to NC in April, Jerry.
It could clear this afternoon?!?
-
According to the National News, Raleigh had horrible weather either last night or early this morning. Has anyone heard if this same string of bad weather affected the show?
-
Marty, I just sent you a pm.
-
Thanks Phillip...glad that your event was spared and you guys are okay.
-
Barney Fife's NC weight station was closed on the trip down. Workers were cutting the grass when we went by on Wed.
Also closed on Sunday on the way home. That was a good thing.
Car ran very well there. Lost in the 2nd round but had to make a lot of adjustments. First race of the season is always like that. Actually went a faster mph than my NHRA national record on Sat evening. 127.46 to be exact. 10.47 ET. (record is 10.45 @ 126.21)
We were in the Lingenfelter suite on Sat when that bad weather system came though. I had no idea that this storm was that devastating. I think Sanford, NC was only about 75 miles east of Concord?

Barney caught me in SC Saturday. After tornado warnings, severe electric storms, huge traffic delays, airborne debris. after 6 or 7 hours on route 95 trying to get through SC, pulled off and hit side roads. The offer was a 300 dollar speeding ticket, or all the cash in my pocket, and no ticket. THANK GOD I ONLY HAD 20 IN MY POCKET. Longest NJ to Florida trip I can remember. Can't wait to get back to NJ.

You can't be serious...I thought the Barney's in our state were corrupt. These guys take the prize. Did you happen to get their names or badge numbers? I bet they also gave you a receipt... :-\
-
SC is famous for that! And trust me, they are looking for out of state tags.
-
Thanks for the heads-up...and remind me to load up on Carolina tags before we head your way. Don't you have a few extra cars laying around... ;D
-
Didn't want name or badge number. Don't want to have any temptations. suggestion if passing through, keep a few bucks handy, but not a stash. Return trip was a breeze. Pulled in this morning.
