Title: 69 DZ 302 V1I15DZ
Post by: jf572dr on January 08, 2015, 04:53:53 AM
I have a 1969 DZ302 engine I am selling and would like to mate it up to the original car if possible.

VIN: V1I15DZ
Casting # 3932386
Cast Date: K118

I recently purchased a vehicle that had been sitting in a garage for 35 years with this engine installed in it.

The transmission is a 1969 Muncie M21.
The heads are 3991492 (2.02 1.60) Service Heads and have angle spark plugs.

I disassembled the engine, leaving the crank (1178), connecting rods, main caps (2482), .030 Forged Pistons (L2210A) (11.8 Compression Ratio with the 492 Heads), Crane Cam (510) still in tack.

The cylinders look good with cross honing marks still visible, and no ridges at top of cylinders, and after soaking with lubricant for a couple days, rotate freely.

Any feedback on validation and/or value, suggestions on how I can mate with original body, or interested buyers appreciated.

Thank you,

 John

Hi, the V11 15DZ is date, not vin,  the vin. should be on the pad before the date

I am new to this site but I think that is my missing motor, V1I15DZ. Wonder if you bought it from Bob who had it on Craigslist in 2012 as listed on this forum as well.
Sorry to dig up an old thread but this is very interesting.

The engine stamp shown above exhibits the same characteristics as the 2012 posting however it appears to be a different block. The 2012 posting appears to be not near as distinct or as deep of an impression as the one shown above.

Both have the same characters in the stamp - (which one would pretty much expect) however IMHO they appear to be different engines.

If the VIN isn’t on the pad wouldn’t it be on the bell housing flange ?
