General Discussion / first Los 69 Camaro?? Vin??
« on: October 13, 2007, 02:25:28 AM »
When was the first 69 Los Camaro built??  my Z car is a 10B...  did they make 10A cars?? or any cars in sept??  would this car have been made the first week?? Vin L5038xx    Los 1045xx

would that be the 3800th car?? and 4,500th body?? or what??

the owner from 1981 is local and verifies that the car was a Z when he had it, but is there any definitive way to tell thats its a real Z without the original motor??  it has all the Z typical stuff..#'s match original muncie with Vin...original dated 12 boly 3.73 posi...discs...plate on frame rail..high redline tach,etc...but, I know some options have been added over the years as per conversation with prior owner....rosewood...cowl hood,etc...

   thanks...

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Trim Tag Numbers
« on: October 05, 2007, 11:33:51 PM »
I had a 69 vert...327 auto...believe it may have been a 3 spd auto... did they make them??? i liked it because they didnt make too many 327's I dont think...daytona yellow...it had an interior fire .  i sold it to a bodyman from philly i think...not that all that matters...but it had a NBR tag also...and  an  0A build date...but I think the 0 in the date should be 10A ......it seems that the 1 is just cut off by the rivet hole...actually John Hooper stopped by my place years ago and took some pics of the cowl tag to that car...unforetunately I never took a pic of it. that stuff didnt really matter to me too much back then. I sold the car many moons ago...but I'll never forget that cowl tag...

  so yes...its factory...
i'm not the only one...its nice to finally have confirmation that I'm not crazy!!!

Can anyone help post my pics...I'm not sure if they are viewable to anyone else...I'll post or email the others if anyone is interested....When i found out about this car, I thought for sure it was the only one ever built...Until Rick's car showed up....If i recall, I believe the odometer shows 4 miles....The car is loaded...early wood wheel..houndstooth...rear defog...tach and guages...I wonder if these cars were complete and then pulled off the line to convert?? or special-built by hand??

  thanks

I just came across 10 pics of a 69 cut-away Camaro..these pics are from 1991 if I recall...this is not Ricks car from Australia...apparently my scanner sucks...I'll try to figure out how to make the pics clearer...Some are more detailed...with the motor all apart...the trunk lift mechanism...the car was super clean back then with only one minor ding if I recall...it seemed to be mostly all there, although missing the display and other nose....it definitely did not need restoring like Rick's car...just needed freshened up...

...this is probably the car that the vendor had pics of at Carlisle....

Decoding/Numbers / Re: ZL-1 Block...ME stamp??
« on: June 05, 2007, 09:26:33 PM »

anyone??  does this look like an original stamping??   the T looks a bit funky to me???? although I dont see any reason to re-stamp a non-original block...does anyone have a pic of other original ZL-1 assembly stampings ???  I guess it really doesn't matter...it is definitely a ZL-1 block..no question about that!!  just curios..

.also, whats the deal with the stamped # on the back of the ZL-1 blocks and the main caps...I've recorded a number of blocks' data with this number and date codes and all...kind of a registry...Does anyone know the significance?? They dont seem to run in order with the block cast #...maybe thats a question for a new thread...  thanks

Decoding/Numbers / ZL-1 Block...ME stamp??
« on: May 08, 2007, 12:14:38 AM »
I was reading a post on the yenko site that listed the Assembly codes for the Zl-1 camaro and vette blocks...I always assumed I had a block with a vette assembly stamp, but upon closer inspection, the block is clearly stamped ME... am I confused?? Im fairly certain this is an original stamp as owner has had this block for many years...

Im finally done moving my 'stuff' from one garage to another...now all my 'stuff' is everywhere in a different garage...One good thing came of the move..I did come across the AC baffles to my 69 vert after about 15 years being'lost' in my old garage.... my car is almost done so I have a few questions....are they really needed for the AC to work well? if so, can I still install them now that the car is all together?? and finally, what do you think they are worth if I decide not to use them on my car?

   thanks CRG

what color should the heater box be on a 69? its a bit glossier than the firewall isnt it? is the aftermarket interior heater box/ firewall insulation the way to go when reassembling the dash area...is there any tips that might help...I am assembling a basket case, so i did not take it apart...a bit harder I guess...

thanks

General Discussion / Panama 69 RS Z-28 sighted (PICS NOW ADDED)
« on: April 20, 2007, 11:49:09 PM »
Im heading home from a S. America trip tomorrow and could not believe my eyes when I arrived at a restaurant yesterday in Panama City (central america)and there was a 69 RS Z-28 in the parking lot...and better yet it was really hurtin...the one fender appeared to be painted with a can..the door was all dented..it was jacked up in the rear and overall was in bad shape, but obviously daily driven. i briefly checked the car out...It was (I believe) lemans blue...it had black houndstooth...early walnut wheel...6k tack and guages(although the colors on the tach were very faded)..12 bolt, discs, rear bumper guards..flat hood... it had the one fender and rear Z emblems and a Panama license plate...it was either missing the hideaways or they were open..I really didnt look at it too long, because I just had to speak with the owner, so I snapped 2 quick pics and entered the restaurant to search for the owner..next thing, I heard the rumble of glass packs?? in the parking lot...the car was pulling away as I ran out of the restaurant  :(:(:(   Anyway, it just goes to show that they are still out there..

You just gotta go a little further to find them...

im not sure how to post the pics...anyone help?
