Hi Guys, Any help would be appreciated. I've owned my car for 36 years and still learn things new all the time. For instance, I just read on this site that the X33 (Z/28) cowl tags can or should reflect having black door sills. Since my car is only a couple weeks away from paint (67 Burgundy) that information will come in handy. But is it ALWAYS true? I'm not certain that my car had original paint when I bought it with 59k back in '77.... I THINK it was, but the sills were body color. It has std interior, white (parchment) seats and vinyl top. IF the sills need to be black, what kind of black? Gloss? Flat? Matte? and how much of the sill?
Thanks for the great site, all this information is overwhelming!

Is your car a Rally Sport? if so, I believe it should have black rockers.. (below the rocker moulding)...
-
All style trim z's (x33) had black rockers.
-
the AIM associates 'black rockers' to the Z21 option.. that's right. that's the exterior moulding package.. :)
Sorry about that. RS is Z22... Thanks for correcting me Steve.
Z21 is included with RS? right? so RS would have the black rockers as well?

Dale I emailed you pics of the black rocker on the 7000 mile RS ZL1 to give you a idea of how sloppy it was done.

Thanks for the speedy replies, fellas. Already I see that my terminology could have been confusing, but you guys were sharp and saw right through that (I was mistaken in saying "door sill", when "body sill" was the word listed). I needed that information just the same, but it makes much more sense now. My "rockers" were painted body-color but as I mentioned, there may have been some paint work done. The car was only 8 years old but had changed hands 3 time before I bought her for keeps. All the other X33 details are correct on my car. Thanks again to all who replied, and for the gentleman who sent pics!

Not true. Colors 51, 57, 61, 67 were excluded according to Chevrolet dealer ordering info.

Certain exterior colors caused an exception to the rocker blackout; have a look at the "Body Sill Color Exceptions" table in the link below, a code 67 Burgundy car would not have had the black-painted rockers.

Edit: William posted while I was (slowly) typing the above reply....

Alright, we've got the black body sill question answered. My 67 burgundy car should NOT have black rockers.
NOW... Another questions comes up: my grille. Mine is black, according to the chart it should be silver if its not also a RS. My Z also has the endura bumper, painted body color also. Hopefully there were exceptions to the grill colors. I like the black grill. And I wouldn't have to buy or paint one. Thoughts?

Sorry all non RS Z/28 got a silver grill. I believe all RS models received a black grill except if the body color was black, then the car received a silver RS grill.

Welcome to the site!

Here are the body colors for '67 and '69 that didn't get the blackout rocker treatment due to lack of contrast with a dark body color, from: http://www.camaros.org/exterior.shtml#BlackoutPaint
The 1967 and 1969 body sill paint codes that did not receive black-out paint (supported by GM documentation - except see note on 1969 #10 Tuxedo Black) are:
1967 and 1969 Body Sill Color Exceptions
1967 1969
---- ----
AA Tuxedo Black 10 Tuxedo Black*
EE Deepwater (Dark) Blue 51 Dusk (Dark) Blue
LL Tahoe Turquoise 57 Fathom (Dark) Green
MM Royal Plum 61 Burnished Brown
NN Madeira Maroon 67 Burgundy
--------
* We have not found GM documentation for the
1969 Tuxedo Black body sill exception. However
we believe it followed the pattern of previous
years and original 1969 cars bear this out.
