Originality / Re: Wiper motor stamping

Here is what I’ve found, vintage United Delco. Font and technique is about spot on.

Steve

Steve,

If I mail you a self-addessed stamped envelope, can you stamp "058 68" on an 8-1/2" x 11" piece of white printer paper and mail it back to me?  Then, I can get a rubber stamp made with that date code.  If interested, please PM a mailing address for my envelope.  Thanks!

Started working on my wiper motor and washer pump and I noticed a stamp on it.

It looks like a Julian date 287 66 so that's Oct 14, 1966.

Were wiper motors stamped like this? Is an mid Oct too early for an 11B car?

Can you post the height of your original stamped numbers?

Vetteskip,

Have you checked under the carpet just above the high beam switch?  There's a tag on the wires just before the plastic wire connector to the switch?  If there is one, can you post a photo of it too?  What was the exact location (i.e., distance from a particular connector) under the dash of the 7663 BC tag? Thanks!

BTW, there would be another harness tag under your console if you ever remove the shifter plate.  There could be other tags under the dash depending on options installed, but would require digging under there for access.

Bernie

Bernie - the '7663' tag is from the high beam switch leads under the carpet; that is the only location for the dash harness tags. I haven't been into the console yet, but if I do, I'll post that pic as well. - Skip

By "dash harness tags" I am assuming you mean the Instrument Panel tag (i.e., listed as "I/P" on broadcast sheets)?  There are other tags under the dash besides the I/P one.  Some other examples of tags under the dash: (1) 1969 dash to left quarter panel rear lighting harness tag is located next to the parking brake.  (2) There may be a tag (unconfirmed as of yet) for courtesy light wire.  (3) An air conditioning harness tag would be under the dash.  (4) Forward speaker harness may have a tag (unconfirmed).

There are more wiring harness tags on your car than what are listed on your broadcast sheet because Fisher Body installed some wiring harnesses before delivering the body to the factory.  The Fisher Body harness tags were color-coded and had the last four numbers of the part number, but did not have a two-letter broadcast code.  Only the factory-installed harnesses had broadcast codes which were listed on the both the chassis broadcast sheet and body broadcast sheet.

There is an eBay vendor (i.e., Popsbowtie 67 thru 69 Camaro Parts) that knows a machine shop expert that custom makes the assembly line correct "spun" version of PCV valves with the AC type number stamped into the side (example: "AC SPARK PLUG TYPE CV-736 C") and the working valve inside.  Pricey, but where else can you get a correct original?  The link to his store so you can contact him for making one: https://www.ebay.com/str/popsbowtie67thru69camaroparts?_ipg=72.

Originality / Re: Unicorn option help ? D88
« on: April 04, 2024, 12:13:54 PM »
In early 2023, I came across one of these "unicorns" in northeast Philadelphia area in a private holding.  It was loaded with options with many of those options appearing to have possibly been either dealer-installed or owner-installed at some point in time because of the numerous flaws that I noticed that could not have been attributed to a factory install.  Regrettably, I did not note the build date on the trim tag.

The D-88 stripes and body paint appeared to be a very old lacquer job so possibly (but not plausibly) original?  Attached is a photo of the "unicorn" with the front license plate redacted.

There are at least two different orientations of the socket location and the small bent locating tab on one end of the license lamp assembly.  See attached photo.  The lamp assembly on the left is the correct 911242 for 1967-68 Camaros because the black socket wire goes through the center rear bumper bracket hole on the passenger side.  Plus, the locating tab is on the passenger side.  The lamp assembly on the right is incorrect.  Notice the socket location changes to the driver side and the small bent locating tab is also on the driver's side?

The correct orientation should be noted before attempting to buy one of these from a seller on eBay, Facebook Marketplace, etc.

Originality / Re: Unique Radio/Stereo Combination for 69’ Camaro
« on: November 15, 2023, 03:41:03 AM »
Yes, I'm sorry I should have said AM or AM/FM. U63 and U69 both had the front center speaker. If the stereo tape player U57 or the stereo multiplex U79 was ordered, no  front center speaker was installed. My apologies, I sometimes forget the U69 FM non-stereo option, which was actually fairly common. I only had an AM radio. Also AM radio is evidenced by a rear telescoping manual antenna, the rear antenna option could not be ordered with the FM radio. I believe AM and FM both had the same straps and capacitors, but I could be mistaken. I'm sure its all in the AIM. The original rear antenna on my car, and the original AM radio still installed, is how I knew the rear spoiler was added. It was an original rear spoiler, but it could have been added by the dealer or from another car at any time after the factory.

Was the hole in the cowl panel inside the passenger door jamb not present for your factory rear antenna setup or was the hole plugged?  If plugged, could post a picture?  Thanks!

Sounds like AM radio with 8 track player, which would have been mounted on the console. This is the same setup I have. Here is a wiring diagram which may answer your questions.
Andy

Console-mounted 8-track players and multiplex stereo players in 1968 and 1969 Camaros were for cars with RPO C60 factory air conditioning systems (Four Seasons) because the AC duct work under the dash on the passenger side obstructed mounting either the 8-track player or multiplex there.

Reviving this post because nobody posted a photo of an original 3929977 jacking instruction for a 1968 SS convertible.  Maybe this time I’ll have better luck.

General Discussion / Re: 68 L48 Harmonic Balancer
« on: July 08, 2023, 02:34:43 AM »
My car and the engine are several states away from me at this time so it'll be awhile before I can determine the timing cover date code.  Regretfully, I did not document that date code in my vehicle's files because the orange paint was so thick it obscured the date code...I would have to remove the cover and media blast it to get the date code.

The embossed date code on one of the three spokes was "22" presumably for Julian date of January 22?

Thanks, Stingr69!

The multiple coincidences with the embossings hinted at my balancer being correct...I'm guessing a previous owner installed my current balancer.  Anybody have for sale an assembly line correct balancer for a Feb 29, 1968 engine?  After your reply, I'm guessing that I'll also need an assembly line correct timing cover too.

Just a follow-up to this topic...

Attached, are front and rear photos of my previously shown NOS heat stove which is now restored to the assembly line correct semigloss black color (using high temp paint) and ready for install on my 68 L48 with M35.

My apologies, but the lower resolution required for posting on CRG has made the photos grainy if you have to zoom in for details.
