Title: Trunk decal for posi traction
Post by: RAS68 on December 13, 2017, 07:23:08 PM
I want to know about the correct style for the posi traction caution decal in the trunk for my 1968 L34 coupe. I recently received my decal from Camaro Central and it has round corners. After looking at some "original" and survivor pictures it seems the correct style is supposed to be with square corners. Which is correct? Any help or definitive pictures would be greatly appreciated.

This is NOS, sitting in a drawer for about 30 years. Measures 5.0" x 6.44".

Not self-adhesive; glued to the lid.

Wow that's a perfect specimen and definitely answers this question once and for all (and confirms my suspicion). The one from Camaro Central has round corners but the correct part number. I just asked them about it and the guy who I talked to said they have been selling this for 30 years and no one has ever mentioned that it is incorrect. He assured me my sources that indicated 1968 decals had square corners were wrong. Oh well, there are still some vendor issues out there so buyer beware. Thanks again for your prompt reply and the great picture! This is such a good forum.

Awesome picture William. Thank you. I'll be needing one of those seeing how mine fell off in the trunk and just about turned to dust when I went to move it to my console for safe keeping...

My 1st thought. Not sure he is still doing these? For some reason , I thought his health may be preventing? Not sure where I heard that. Doesn't hurt to try though.

"Pacecarjeff" on ebay also appears to be selling a correct paper reproduction much like the web site provided by Darrell.
Thanks again for all the interest and great reply's.

William, Is that a date (7-22-58) on the bottom next to the part number?

I believe so. Used the label for many years.

Allen, keep in mind as aforementioned that posi sticker was glued on. I know Don sells them both with adhesive and without, and not sure what Jeff sells but something to keep in mind.  On a side note, I and many use Don's and they are very good.

I will look into the ones from "Don". Thanks.

Whats the best way to get some of these vendors to recheck the correctness of their products as they are labeled or described in their catalogs or on their web sites?

You can tell them but most likely they will not change it. There's a lot of inaccurate repros out there especially when it comes to decals/stickers.

I have the original on my 69, same part number and also square corners, but different font. I am guessing there was more than 1 supplier. Or they switched suppliers at one point. I haven't seen one like Williams on a 69, but someone may know what date they made the switch.

I have seen some without date.

My trunk labels are EXACTLY duplicated  from a perfect original that I had saved for 30 years.
And yes, I can provide them either way - sticky back or plain paper.

After they age a bit, they are indistinguishable from the originals.
I get $7.35 on ebay, or $6 at www.pacecarjeff.com, but  If that is the only thing you need - ebay is cheaper cause of free freight.
Remember, I offer a discount on everything for my fellow CRG members and NCRS Members. so just ask...
every single label should have the date on it - if not it is an incorrect reproduction.

thanks, Jeff

What kind of adhesive would you recommend for the plain paper back, Jeff?

3M 1 qt. Neoprene 10 Contact Adhesive, Multipurpose, Yellow (Light yellow)

Would be my suggestion.

Mike

Just drizzle a little contact cement from home depot. It is yellowish.  :)
