Decoding/Numbers / Re: 69 Z/28 firewall crayon marks
« on: April 16, 2012, 05:30:02 AM »
Sam
I think you solved the mystery caryon marks on my rear bulkhead. I have a dark green interior X33car 02A car and we thought the mark was an O but must be a D, the G is covered with adhesive but is kind of legible we thought was a 6 but must be a G. The 3 is very legible.............so DG3 makes sense.
Thanks for the post
Cheers

Were your mirrors original or repros and have the white etched date codes and if so did the lacquer thinner effect the coding?
Thanks

Great Topic Marty, LM69Z28.....This is our license plate! My wife's name is Lisa and although we have a beautiful and useable correct CA black plate for our little girl we decided on a personalized plate. Lisa gets the props and top billing for unwavering support throughout the purchase and restoration process. I could not have achieved this crazy goal I set out to do way back on Oct 31st 2002 without her unwavering support and votes of confidence along the way and nice presents of cash to help the project along. When I told her what I had in mind she said I was crazy but thought that 69Z's were cool especially when I took her for a ride in one and did 6 grand power shifts! This girl likes going fast!...............no wise ass comments please! Her support also includes rational thoughts during many irrational moments that I have had during the years of the purchase and resto process!
My name is Michael and of course we have an original restored fully numbers matched 69 Z28..............Pretty simple but we like it.  ;)

I got  a good laugh from the April fools posting of home page photos of 1st gen Camaros, but its a sad day that the pic of the Yellow Camaro with the 22's? maybe larger wheels on it is for real unless photo shopped but I  doubt it! This is not a joke, these guys are SERIOUS! I live in the greater LA area but at the beach and away from the inner city  but do many car shows and have seen some outrageous 1st  through 5th gen cars that look just like this one.........different strokes but I'll tell you what don't laugh around these cars or they will find your body floating somewhere...................remember watch your back and keep your mouth shut!
Welcome to the new world of Camaro resto and modification
Afraid to sign my handle in case of retribution :o

Our 02A X33 car's tank is dated 2 upside down 5 69. Not sure if I added this info. previously or not but did not see it in Kurt's latest list.

Maintenance / Re: SB upper Alternator bracket removal
« on: March 05, 2012, 06:20:25 PM »
Got it on the battery cable of course. What I am trying to avoid is removing the alternator or fan belt and just remove the upper bracket. Is that feasible?
Thanks

Maintenance / SB upper Alternator bracket removal
« on: March 05, 2012, 05:32:24 AM »
OK fellow 1st gen Camaro lovers I need some expert advice and or opinions for some R & R work................Are you able to remove the upper large alternator bracket (sb 302 motor) without removing the alternator or belt? From looking at how its assembled it appears the the lower bracket will hold the alternator unit in place and all you need to do is remove the 3 bolts holding the larger bracket in place. Remove it and then when refinished just reinstall it...Please let me know if that is correct or what is required................Thanks for all the input
Cheers

Restoration / Re: 1969 Hood Hinge Color
« on: February 29, 2012, 07:28:58 AM »
Lets not forget that a "raw" phosphated hinges, springs or latch's etc will get surface rust on them "almost" overnight if its exposed to ANY type of moisture. (Refer to Jerry's book page 203) There are many products out there that should be used to protect these parts after being finished. You don't  want to pull them off ever year or so to redo them unless that's your "thing" Think about aligning the hood every year.......... no thanks! My solution to this since our Z lives  at the beach in So California was several coats of Testors rattle can clear semi gloss lacquer.  Then baked in the oven at 200 degrees. They look great and very correct with a nice medium gray finish!
My 2 cents
good luck

Your right CRG sure does help but if you can cut through the sales ebay crap you can still find some good deals but they are getting few and more far between as time goes on
