Mild Modifications / Re: powerglide to th350 conversion
« on: June 10, 2013, 03:39:10 AM »
It fits together;  that must have been GM's goal at the time.  Its just one of those things that makes one wonder what they were thinking.  The original transmission pan; has a drain plug, but yet the cross member prevents easy access to the transmission filter!  It's a real  mess to change both; the design  made an easy thing into a really irritating drippy mess.
I've owned the car since I was 18 and  still recall my thoughts the first time under the car............."What the ????????????"
Over time I've decided they got 99% of the car right, this is just something that could have been a better design on the cross member.

It's a pain.  What else can I say?   My 350 with TH350 came from the factory new and the cross member does cover the rear bolts on
the transmission pan.   It's necessary to improvise; place the broad side of a chunk of 2X4 under the pan easing it up slowing after
removing cross member and mount bolts, move the cross member back slightly to gain access to the bolts, block the whole thing
in that position and remove the pan.  Fortunately it doesn't have to be done often.

Restoration / Re: Trunk specifics

No,  I'm more of an authentic type of guy than a customizer.   We carry a plastic tote box in the trunk for small items and keep it in the middle of the trunk, in the area that is lower than the side panels.   In this way we keep things from rolling around or falling down the side gaps.

General Discussion / Re: my 69 Z being restored

You know,  after reading this thread for awhile now...not that my opinion counts for anything other than myself.  It is a fantastic looking car!  People who have lived with these cars and know them inside out,  they are to be respected.  Then on the other hand,  the original owner, who knows what he ordered and has owned, he is to be respected too.  From my own experience its frustrating to have bought my car when 18 years old,  then someone tells me "that's not original to  your car, or that is wrong."   Mine is a late 69, so I tell myself that is why.    I will say this is amazing site, with wonderful people devoted to an amazing car, and be thankful for that.

Restoration / Re: Grill questions
« on: April 23, 2013, 04:18:40 AM »
When new the 69 grill surround area was painted the color of the car body, the stainless trim was not painted, and the screws were not painted.   My 69 is red and the grill is grey/silver plastic (not painted) and is the original grill that came with the car.  I've seen 69's with black grills; but can't say whether they came new that way.

Restoration / Re: License plate light Q's

I forgot to say only the brown wire coming out of the plug goes to the license plate light, the tan wire goes through a grommet over the fuel filler neck and runs to the  meter in the fuel tank.   Sorry its been a long Monday..............

My 69 has a two wire connector as z28z11  has said.  The wires into the connecter are brown and tan, also at the same point on the trunk harness a black wire comes out of the wrap to a ground screw on the lock assembly support brace.

Our hs football coach had a chevelle that color,  and later a friend had a 65 Impala SS in evening orchid,  we called it "purple", but what did we know?
Never seen it on a Camaro though. I think its not a bad color; kind of unique looking.  My wife is looking over my shoulder
right now..............she likes it!
