Title: 1967 Oil Pan with dent and pinhole -- replacement recommendations, please
Post by: 67L48 on August 20, 2022, 10:22:37 PM
1967 350

I dented my factory oil pan 25 years ago over a speedbump and it has a tiny pinhole leak in it.  Just a steady little drip that is enough to make a mess, but not enough to ever really lose any significant oil.

With my engine out, it's a great time to finally fix this.  My assumption is that this isn't fixable, so a replacement is required.  My goal is to stay as factory correct as possible.

Should I just grab an OER oil pan (https://www.classicindustries.com/product/1967/chevrolet/camaro/parts/t5100.html), get a GM 465221 (https://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/25859/1967-81-Camaro-SB-Oil-Pan-Assy-302-307-327-350-GM%23-465221-USA%21/) oil pan and paint it orange, or is there some other route I should go?

Thanks.

Braze it.

Agreed, repair it.

OP, I would be careful about replacements. I've seen some come with a metric thread drain plug.

I needed one for my 396. Never could find a used one exactly like mine. I found a guy to metal finish my original. Cost almost 300 to fix it, but I was saving another part of the car....Joe

Thanks, guys.  That's why I asked ... I had read lots of stories about these pans just not fitting or looking right. To my untrained eye, it would seem like a pretty easy part to get right, but that's not what I've read online.  I'll see if it can be saved.  The dent is visible, for sure, but the leak has always been miniscule (obviously, since I've lived with it for nearly 30 years).

Again, the responses and ideas are appreciated.

Can't see the dent but I do bodywork everyday. Braze is out...just mig it. I may have a GM pan in stock or look at Camaro Central. I believe they are selling them now.
