Also this photo, and the other one appears to be a still from old Super 8 film footage. IF that is the case, wonder where/who has it?

It's my understanding it was installed to hide some roof mods, and to cover up the ultra thin metal from acid dipping.

Yes, that was the case with the 1969 Penske Camaro. In the end, I don't know how it could have been an advantage with the added weight and aero drag of the vinyl. The way they ran though, it didn't matter. 

Not sure about why this car needed a vinyl roof though. Easily could be for the same reason.
