Restoration / Control Arm shaft position
« on: February 16, 2019, 11:09:30 PM »
I think I know the answer, but going to double check with you guys. To the naked eye they look identical. Are the upper control arm shafts symmetrical and therefore are not side or direction specific. Thanks

Any idea how they accomplished the conversion? Replace entire dash and firewall assemblies, weld in patch panel, how about the steering box on the subframe?

I'm thinking there's not a big demand for date coded shocks for a mono leaf car. I guess these are headed for the metal recycler.

Thanks  Paul

Do you have originals to restore? I have two rear shocks part #3192831. The google machine says they are for 67-69 Camaro, doesn't specify Z/28 though. Dates are 176/69 and 188/69 They look good, lower bushings are beautiful, just don't do any expanding on there own, need rebuilding? You can have them if they will work. PM me if you want them. Paul

Garage Talk / Re: 4 post lift
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:19:48 PM »
I have a 4 post, it works well for working down the middle of the car, everything is open and accessible. The rails are sometimes in the way when doing brakes and suspension work, I just position the car closer to the edge of the side I'm working on. I have a bridge jack that sits between the rails and slides the length of the lift, which is handy. I also built a tray that I can put a bottle jack on and slide between the rails. I bolted mine to the floor. The idea of having a car 6' off the ground and the lift not permanently attached didn't give me piece of mind. I've seen the demonstrations, engineers alot smarter than me designed them, but I bolted it down.

Restoration / Upper control arm bolt paint?
« on: February 05, 2019, 04:04:58 PM »
I did a search and from the one picture I found, it appears the bolts attaching the upper control arm to the subframe are not painted. Is that correct? I'm going to paint it in a couple hours try to cover last minute issues. Thanks

Those Pilot pics are interesting. I like the interior pics in the first group with the 3 in the tree, automatic shifter, console and clutch pedal. Don't see that everyday.

Restoration / Re: Firewall Pad of Choice???

I'll order the molded pad. The rubber plugs didn't survive the removal this time, so I'll be looking for some replacements, preferably some good used ones. Thanks for all the responses I really appreciate them.

Restoration / Firewall Pad of Choice???

I need to purchase a new Firewall Pad. I did a search, most relevant thread was 2012, links don't work 6 years later and I'm hoping for some improvements. Anybody have suggestions for replacement pad. I've seen listings for molded pads $175 and other pads for $50 I'm looking for the best fit and finish. Thanks

Restoration / Re: Need Ball Joint Rivets Installed
« on: December 09, 2018, 04:40:07 AM »
I'm going to ship them to Bair's when they come back from the powdercoater, $25 per-side plus shipping. That seems reasonable and they have a good reputation. I'm having second thoughts about the powdercoating though. It seems from my reading, the control arms were fully assembled, painted then the ball joint was installed. If that's the correct sequence my cross shaft bushing won't be painted. Were the bushings installed before painting?

I'll contact them tomorrow. I'll have to ship to them, they're 5 hours away. Anybody have anything closer to the DC metro area. Thanks

Restoration / Need Ball Joint Rivets Installed
« on: December 05, 2018, 10:54:21 PM »
Looking for someplace to install my upper ball joint rivets. I live in Frederick, Md, can travel to Virginia or Pennsylvania. I called around today, 6 different restoration shops including Corvette restorers and all said they don't do them. One fellow only does them on his customers restorations, just use bolts is what I was told. Alot of Restoration Shops doing "Complete,Total,Full Frame Off Restorations", apparently all those descriptive words have different meanings.

Mine don't look like that and they were done by somebody that is supposed to know what they should look like. I'll look around for somebody else that can do this set or I'll use the rivets with the nuts on the bottom. Great pictures. Thank you

Restoration / Pics of Riveted ball joints
« on: December 04, 2018, 11:28:01 PM »
Does anybody pictures of the what the rivets look like after the new ball joints are install and the rivets crushed. There are a number of pictures available of the original factory ball joints/rivets. I'm referring to the one's being done now. I had mine done 10 years ago and they look like somebody smashed them with a BFH, just flattened them down. I happen to be looking at factory rivet and noticed they are rounded on the top. This has me questioning the appearance of mine. Thanks
