You’ll need a powerful flashlight and just follow the sequence of pictures.

3 hiddens easily found in seconds of a complete take down of a restoration! But of course having knowledge of where to look is a must to find them. Yep all 3 was my confirmed VIN.

Sweet; There is generally among many many other ways to see & confirm an 'original paint car' as that Cowl stamped Con VIN will be "CHIPPED" into the Factory paint.

I wonder if the Cars taken to National Judged show duplicate that appearance?

My Repaints are filled (Esp) Striped cars, never really occurred to me to 'carve' it out.

Yea, this was just an updated way to find it. At the very least, it’s not hidden when you want to confirm before buying.
I’m curious why anyone would fill this area before painting.

Not intentionally fill, just the results of various layers of primer, sealer, base coat, clear and stripes can Result in a filling action making them difficult to read.

Three hidden VIN's? I have restored numerous Camaros and only know of two , the one shown above and the one underneath the blower motor, where's the third?

Hum:
2 Body + 1 engine = 3

Generally speaking they usually refer to the 2 "Stamped" hidden Sheetmetal Contracted VINs in the Sheetmetal as the two hidden, but one could argue the Third is stamped on the Block and hidden from view by an alternator, air pump, Air conditioning maze or low on the drivers side oil filter vertical surface.

So if there is no engine, it’s definitely hidden…but pretty sure there’s only 2.

There are 4 partial VINs.

On the top of the cowl on the passenger side (underneath the cowl vent panel).

On the firewall below the fan motor opening (non-AC cars) or below the heater opening (AC cars).

Engine pad.

Transmission.

Except for 67 non-SS or Z28, which didn't get a partial VIN stamp on the block, and probably not on the trans either?

Yea, but we're going for the body VINS.

Actually, 1968 Federal law required it on all makes and models sold in the US. One of the 'requirements' stated the VIN had to be on the top of the dash visible from the outside. From what I have heard, all makes/brands have hidden VINS on the body/frames as well.

Also federally required.

Not all Camaros got the partial VIN stamped by the blower motor area. My car did not have it. Van Nuys 11B

When I brought my Nor 69 SS to NC with a PA title they were requiring 3 vin locations with photo documentation. They accepted the title as one, the windshield as the second, and with a CE block the cowl would be three. My cowl number has one digit missing, just not there. I knew the trans had one and they had a lift so up it went. The exhaust was in front of the trans vin but you could read it. They said they had to get 3 vin photos to go with the NC title application and their camera or mine would not focus as close as the exhaust pipe to vin stamping. So they told me to leave and come back with either the exhaust pipe removed or the front fender (they knew where the hidden vin was). I might add that the DMV that does this in NC is 35 miles from me. Since I just got the car I really was not into taking things apart. I did get a NC title later but I really should not say how on the internet.

Typically in Pa, you have to title it there before leaving-which really makes it easier. But removing the front fender won’t get you access. The cowl number under the wipers was missing a number? Was it possibly painted over? Post some pictures.

I am not where I can access a picture of the missing digit on my cowl stampimg. It is a 46 year repaint car done in laquer paint and you can see the number just was never there. The other numbers show a slight indention but where last number should be it is nothing there. Maybe the stamp malfunctioned. It was pointed out before I bought the car. The cars previous owners are known and I have spoken with all of them back to 1977 including the guy who had the last paint done in 1977.
