CHARLOTTE AUTOFAIR, APRIL 9-12
« on: March 09, 2015, 11:53:56 PM »
An offer: If you are active on this forum and do plan to come to the Charlotte Autofair, I'll be happy to send you two tickets (as in "vendor" tickets for the entire Autofair). PM me with your real name and mailing address. I'll send the tickets to you the first week in April. (You will NOT be placed on any soliciting list.)  Also, even if you have gotten tickets through me before, you still need to PM for this spring's tickets.

Several on this forum from the greater Charlotte area are in local Camaro/Chevy clubs and will be there on the weekend.

If you have questions, please post them here or PM me before March 14.  I'm going to be very busy the last half of this month and probably will not be able to get back to you before April.

My favorite  time of the year.  After our nasty  cold winter I'm ready for that southern  hospitality

Phillip:  I understand from a friend who has swap spaces there, that they are being moved around from long term spots due to construction of a 'road course' within the infield?    Can you elaborate on what changes we should expect when we arrive this year??  fewer vendor spots? more difficult to rove thru the vendors?  or is the construction all finished now?

Road course racing is making a comeback in Charlotte.
Once the vendors move in you will probably not notice the difference. Construction is not complete, but they won't work that week. The vendors who are on the Blue field near the scoring tower will be rearranged some. A few will be moved out to the Green and Red fields

Thanks.. :)   It doesn't sound so drastic as you describe it as it did from someone who was being moved from his long term spot adjacent to the tower.. :)

Looks like he may get it back eventually...
But then in the Fall, Speedway will be digging up the Orange field.
You won't recognize turn 2. Those grandstands are gone!
I can see his point of view. There is a significant difference in people flow outside the infield.
On the other hand, this time will have the largest number of vendors ever. And we are expecting over 150000 spectators on Saturday. So shop on Thursday and Friday!

I meant to add that the new road course looks challenging.  The banking is only a few degrees in most of the turns.
I'm trying to figure a way to take the 68 for a turn around the infield on staking day...

To the couple of you who are waiting on tickets, I'll mail them in the morning when I get to the HNR office.
Autofair and AACA meet are really shaping up.
Long range weather is good, but right now it is cold in NC.
Looks like a record number of CRG-ers will be there.

Come on down! It is supposed to be 74 on vendor set up day and 72 on the first day of Autofair (but slight chance of rain).

Looks like there will be at least 15 there from this forum with three that are vendors and a couple more showing with Camaro clubs....

Glad to hear it! Did you see the Pennsylvania College of Technology Chevelle on the Finish Line or Show Field?

Wish I could have been there Phil.  Did you talk to the exec. dir.? Hope to see you at Hershey this year? If you do come leave the rain at home!!
Yes, spoke with Steve several times, including about his race car.
I do plan to be at Hershey. Maybe we can actually talk face to face! I'll leave the rain and pollen home
Never got over to see the Dodge display.

Phillip, thanks for the extra tickets. I passed them along to my nephew and his father-in-law and they had a great time. They would have not gone otherwise.

No, said he was racing it in a few weeks, so no time to bring it down.

Phillip I will be 100 percent honest, and only as constructive criticism.   My only disappointment outside in the red and green fields is that things were to spread out.   But I did well and was VERY happy with the weekend.   The weather worked out well, but forecasts were shakey.  It is my favorite shows of the year.   I live so close to Carlisle and lost interest in it because of rules and greed.   All the staff at Autofare are nice and very polite.   I look forward to eating at the Texas Ranch Steak House and that staff knows us from 10 years of patronage.   My father retired two years ago and we go together.   Also my uncle usually goes, a GTO owner.     It has been a family outing for us for over 20 years now.   We have many priceless moments together there.   That in itself is worth it.   Thanks for all that you do and your efforts are greatly appreciated.  Just hoping I can come in the fall.   Dan

I appreciate the appraisal. I'm glad to know both the HNR and Speedway staffs are doing it right.
What do you mean by "spread out"? Spread out in the field itself? Or too far from inside? Or just plain old too much walking?
In the Spring what I and my team do as meet chair is only a small part of Autofair. But the meet is one of the largest in the country.

The  venders  were to far apart in the upper part of the green field and the red field  in general.  To much gap or space between  vendors.  Not to much walking.  I know some of  that is people that have spaces and did not show up.   But I did a lot of zig zag walking to get to see each space.   Not complaining just may help the venders  in the outer areas.  Our spaces are good.

Been about 1987 or 88 since I've been there, bought a car back then.  Test drove around the track. Good times. Was always one of my favorite swap meets.  Would also like to see pics of how things are now.
