Restoration / Re: Cleaning 302 intake
« on: February 25, 2016, 08:38:34 PM »
IMO, first of all please keep in mind that your original 472 intake has a factory finish that CAN NOT be replaced.  It has a sheen, or  semi gloss that was a result of the process of manufacture.  I learned this technique from a NCRS judge, clean with carb and choke cleaner and a tooth brush and rag to wipe off excess cleaner.  Brake cleaner in small amounts, in addition, works well also.

In addition, Spray-Nine cleaner is excellent for aluminum.

This process is not easy, and will take much elbow grease.  Your intake is only original ONCE.

DO NOT use A/C condenser cleaner, it will turn surface black, quick.

DO NOT use abrasive methods, scotch brite, sos, emery cloth, etc.  Your finish will be gone.  And the worst possible death of an original intake is blasting.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Bulkhead Numbers and Letters ?
« on: February 17, 2016, 11:03:07 PM »
If I may ask, please add your paint and interior to each car submitted.  If it is X3 for example, please state if it is 711, 712, 713, 727, etc.  If it is a colored interior, please state std. or deluxe and number.  Just trying to make the list more complete, and it is more interesting to see what the car actually looked like, and how equipped.  In the long run for research and archives, it will be more complete also.

We have a update in the making.  Larry and Gary, we look forward to your codes.  Gary, get you some knee pads if you need them!  If you will put your knees on the floor and your shoulder against the back of the front seat, it makes it pretty easy, or easier.

Thanks,
Bryan

General Discussion / Dealership Ads from your local newspaper
« on: February 14, 2016, 04:05:17 AM »
If you have received your NCRS shipping data report, or your dealership that sold your car new is known, then I have a suggestion.  Most Public libraries have the town newspaper on microfilm and with very little research time, you could find many ads by your local Chevrolet dealer, complimenting your cars history and paperwork.  In most cases the quality of the copy machines at the library would be sufficient to make a suitable copy for your records.

Below are two examples of the dealership that sold my 69 Z28, C. D.King.  There were many other ads by this dealer for other cars, Chevelle's, Corvette's, etc.  These two were all I found with Camaro's listed.  Denton-Smith was another dealer locally.

For some, this may be a long shot.  But you might be surprised.

Thanks Darrell, for posting the ads.

Good luck,
Bryan

Original Cars and Details / Re: Z28 cowl paint (and Z11/Z10)

Would it be possible to compare components that might have been shift coded and would match up to the color of the PTB stamps for shifts.

My thoughts were the G1 or G2 on the rear axle, or the A or B on the steering sector.  I wold think these components were stamped at the prospective plants, but you get the idea, something that would match.

Great to have seen everyone again, Steve, Darrell and Gary.  Good to hear everyone is back home safe.  Well, you camaro blood hounds did a pretty good job, but I made a few good scores, and made a nice find from a vendors home, to be sent in the parcel system, well worth the trip.  Look forward to next year.

Well, you two have stirred my curiosity about my stamps on my 05A Z.  Up until now, I thought I had found them all, maybe not!  I found a green P and B behind booster and next to the harness hook , and no T.  I found my T on the right side, centered above the heater core box, nearly to top of firewall.

Would ya'll think my T just wound up on the right side, or I might have two sets?  There are no signs of any other letters without magnification and serious light, which I will do next.

Does anyone know what shift is for green, day or night?

Decoding/Numbers / 1968 N34 wood wheel part number question?
« on: February 01, 2016, 09:44:00 PM »
I can not find the part numbers for the horn contact cam w/tilt and the cap mount with horn contact tab.  I looked all over the 68 AIM and couldn't find much on the N34.  So, let me ask a few questions...

The parts vendors say the parts are the same for 68 and 69, Bull.  The 9751046 horn cap mount for the 69 hub 3937896, has a longer tab on it to make up for the hub being shorter, doesn't it?

I need the correct pn# for the horn cap mount and the horn contact cam w/tilt for the 68 3930062 hub?  I had thought the 68 cap mount had a shorter tab on it for the deeper hub.  If any other parts are different for the internal parts from 68 to 69, I would need those numbers also.

Thanks,
Bryan

I think it would take several reports to work, maybe 6 to 8 different people.  Then, maybe the alternator, smog pump, and YH rally fakers would get scared and quit!

It works!  Load him up!...and all the rest that are selling crap!

Policy overview
click hyperlink "report listings that offer counterfeit items or replicas"

Three select topics will pop up
1. listing practices
2. Fraudulent listing practices
3. you suspect this listing is fraudulent
click continue
put in item number

If ebay gets a bombardment of complaints with this tool, they will have to act!

I think this would do the trick.  I started looking on the sellers page, under policies at bottom of page, and found this reporting page.

Here is another one below, but this one, a 9C4, is described as re manufactured!  This seller is leaving the decision upon the buyer, knowing that it is not authentic.

As far as the one that Gary posted, I know is against Ebay's policy.  If several complaints were filed against this seller, telling ebay that this seller is committing fraud and the seller knows he is selling fakes, and that several camaro archive groups have analyzed his fake products, and wanted him banned.  I think ebay would ban him.  If he didn't have a place to sell his junk, maybe he and these other junk pushers would give up.

I think there is a place to complain to ebay on the sellers page.  Possibly located were you would PM the seller.  I'm about to search for how to do this task.

General Discussion / Re: Would you pay more for a rare color?
« on: January 22, 2016, 07:35:03 AM »
Austin,  I thought long and hard about this.  I wouldn't pay ANY more for a rare color if the car was a plain jane.  The car in question would have to be blessed with options and the color/interior choice would be a major factor, then the price would be effected.

I have been looking for a 68 in Tripoli Turquoise with 716 Ivory or 749 Black houndstooth or 719 blue dlx. with A/C for ages.  Maybe a dusk blue 69 with blue dlx. or houndstooth, or Corvette Bronze with Houndstooth, etc.  Finding that unique combination would cause considerable amounts of fruit jars to be dug up, but no digging for a plain jane!

X33RS, yes CHQ has the ext. ring and the seal flange available separately.  Click on the link of CHQ that Steve posted, then click air cleaner and intake, just above and left of air cleaner picture.

The repop flat bottom manufactured by CHQ (Rick George) is extremely close to original.  It has the notch, it has a single 90 deg. bend, and ripples in the base to a certain extent.  The spark arrestor fits nice.  The extension and flange fit snug and correct also.  I thought they were very nice for the money!  The original extension and flange also fit nicely on the bottom.
