Restoration / '69 Non-tilt Key Warning Buzzer
« on: February 26, 2013, 08:07:52 PM »
Ive searched the restoration catalogs for a key warning buzzer switch for a NON-tilt column. No one seems to carry this item any longer, but the switch is available for a tilt column. they are also available for a Corvette Tilt-tele option column. Does anyone know if any of the repo switches available today can be used in a '69 non-tilt Camaro column?

Thanks for your help in advance....

The pot-metal heater control cable bracket on top of my '69 (with A/C) heater box has crumbled into pieces. I know GM used this same box on several car lines for years....anyone know of a replacement part number, or substitute number from another GM car that will fit the application?

Thanks in advance for any help!!!

Installing a new engine wiring harness on the '69. Found an Orange Wire with a female blade type connector covered with a rubber boot in the same wrap as the starter soleniod wires. I ordered a harness for a console gauge car...but my original harness has the same orange wire (but appears to have never been hooked to anything).

What's the orange wire for?

Restoration / Leaf Spring Scuff Pad Replacement
« on: April 23, 2009, 02:33:08 PM »
I'm in the middle of restoring the original multi-leafs on a '69. The kit from Ricks has a correct size spring pad set (the pads that go between each leaf), but the "raised" portion is wrong (as denoted on the box). Their instructions say to trim the raised portion and EPOXY the pad to the spring. I'm thinking there must be a better way.

1. Anyone know of a "correct" replacement leaf spring pad available anywhere?
2. Anyone tried Plastic Welding additional material to the pads to fill in the larger indention in the spring?
3. If you went the glue/epoxy route....what type glue or epoxy did you use? What were your results? How are they holding up under use?

A search of previous posts didn't reveal any lessons learned....... Any advice/experience would be appreciated!!! Thanks[/b][/b]

Restoration / Re: 1969 camaro jack assembly

69er, I think that's a later model GM jack when they started putting a small (1/4" X 1 1/4") vertical hole in the bumpers to hook the jack into (around the time of introduction of the 15mph bumpers). 69's should have an upsidedown "C" shaped saddle to pick up on the bumper under the bumper mount. Someone probably has a good picture. Endura's also had a different saddle bracket than standard.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: How do I title a Camaro without one?
« on: January 24, 2007, 03:42:58 PM »
Steve, I'm in NC too, and based on my experience it depends on how knowledgable (or helpful) the person is you talk to at the NCDMV.

Assuming you visit a "good" DMV, you can have a car re-titled in NC using it's born with VIN by claiming a lost title. They will want to inspect the car (or see a pencil rubbing of the VIN), run the VIN through the stolen car database, and have you fill out a mountain of paperwork. Assuming all is clear they will issue another title. Digital pictures of all numbers and tags usually help the paperwork process.

Another experience I have had (on another car, different DMV office) was they insisted on giving me a "North Carolina VIN". Basically issuing me a metal plate with a number that I had to rivet on the car in the doorjamb.... I refused and found another DMV. Their reason for the new VIN was that my '69 13 digit VIN didn't match the modern 17 digit format.

I would strongly suggest dropping by a DMV and discussing your options prior to actually trying to title it....it may save you some headaches down the road. In my opinion...the more remotely located DMVs seem to be more helpful.

Let us know how it turns out.... I'm curious what your experience is.....

Restoration / Re: Outer door window felts
« on: November 21, 2006, 09:26:28 PM »
My original outer window felts are rounded on the end of the stainless as well...but it looks like it was performed in a concave die of some sort...doesn't look filed to me.

Some people epoxy the stem of an aluminum rivet in the end of the steel tube, then file/buff it round....keeps you from cutting your fingers on the sharp edge of the repo weatherstrips.
