Originality / Center dash panel with horizontal woodgrain insert...
« on: March 06, 2009, 03:01:58 PM »
What year would this panel be good for, with the woodgrain horizontal pattern  67-69 ?  On mine there is a kinda "spider-webbing effect" behind the insert... Is this a residual glue that was in fact used 30 years ago or???
Thanks!!

Going through my listing and Googled  above number "7040236  Checker" and it appears it was used in '69 for 327s and 350s with 250 or 255hp and in '70 with a 350 and the previous HP values.. Couple of lines down I see a 7029202 4bbl good numbers for a '69 Maro..  Were these caebs for the Checker Co any different in calibrations from the ones used for '69 Camaros..??  Kinda doubt they were the same 300hp carbs that were numbered good for Camaros???

General Discussion / What would cause a heck of a back fire like this???
« on: November 14, 2008, 01:07:26 PM »
Friend did a re-ring /bearings and hand held hone job on a 350ci whilst putting in a XE 268 hydr. cam.
Beast would start and by the time he jumped outta the car to adjust timing, she'd die..  He tried this a couple of times and noticed carb and fuel pressure regulator  had sprung leaks...  Decided to shut her down for the day and gave me a call as I had a neat 600 Holley ready to go... so to speak.
He put on a decent spare regulator with  the know good Holley. This was 2 days after the engine would not keep runningas gas was leaking..
He turned the key, and, instant friggin'  blast came outta the psgr. side muffler..  I was on this side looking for leaks, Holy GeeMoly the front of the muffler was "bowed out" and the seam almost split.
Friend looked at me and he said I was white..  I really did not expect this...  Was there residual gas left in this muffler for 2 days, and when she caught, she exploded??
Good end to story is, engine runs great with carb.  How could there be liquid gas or vapors in only one muffler (psgr side) out of a dual system for 2 days???
Oh yeah, nuttin' to worry 'bout me boys, my skin color / heart rate - normal again..

Decoding/Numbers / Water Pumps 3782608 and 3782609 casting dates??
« on: November 04, 2008, 07:12:09 PM »
Did GM put date codes on old water pumps and where..  Lotsa "Bubba" rattle can paint on the
2608 unit but I can make out a 6 with an "M" in a square.
On the other pump,  I see a "GM 3" on the front, and when I turn it over "S3" is  stamped on the rear..  The 2609 pump has a fitting somewhat like a BBC on the middle of the pump and the 2608 pump has a fitting 45 degree angled to the psgr. side...
Any idea of the dates of these beasts and, what is best way to clean these e.g. media blast without marring the pumps...  Thanks!!  T.

Originality / Points distrib 1111481 is there supposed to be....
« on: October 29, 2008, 02:18:34 PM »
Is there supposed to be a reddish paint overspray towards the rear of the unit near the "timing slash" on the distributor body akin to the 621 bellh'sing overspray or was this done possibly by a "Bubba" in his or her angst to paint a cast iron intake manifold and make her look nice like "back in the day"??
Thanks!  Ted
