There are a few cases with wide separation between casting and assembly. Usually with big blocks though.

Originality / Re: Recently purchased a LM1 Camaro RS package
« on: July 18, 2018, 02:19:04 PM »
I have verified both motor and transmission match the car Vin.  I have the car apart and looking for advice.  I have the original build sheet from owner.  The car was Dover white with blue interior and a D90 stripe.  It has the original 12 bolt rear end, (according to casting). Five leaf suspension.  The body is rusted bad.

I am going to build motor only changing intake and carberator.  I am keeping original just in case I sell.  Just curious if I am heading in the right direction.  It is a complete car with original paint on most of car.  I have original RS decals, grille assembly, front clip.  Any recommendations? The body or shell is smoked.

Post some pics.

What is the axle code stamp?

Size of the engine assembly don’t looks too close to the size of the partial VIN font but it may be an optical illusion.

1 is for Chevrolet. But there should be a 9 after the 1

Most of the value is in the Art Morrison frame.

Nothing there that proves it’s an SS car but we will log the VIN.

Right - BUY it!  :)

Are you going to have VINs for all 3 years?

Nice!

I had seen that before but it’s a cool video.

What did you think of the hood on the car around 4:58 in the video?

Restoration / Re: L34 FORGED CRANK ?

There was a lot of confusion in the early 70s.

The 400 small block and 402 big block were both available in pickups.

I will check to see if we know anything about the car it was supposed to be in originally.

Edit: I don’t see anything on that VIN.

It’s an early 402 from a late 69 Camaro.
