General Discussion / Re: "muscle car" without posi
« on: June 20, 2018, 03:55:49 PM »
I don't know if it was just within my group of buddies in college and after or a general term that others used, but I remember back in the day (very early '70's) we referred to high performance cars as super cars.  I don't remember muscle cars used as a reference until maybe 1980's or '90's.  That being said I have always considered the 1964 GTO as the first super or muscle car; a mid-size car with a medium or big block high performance engine, stripped with very few if any options and no luxury features.  The 1968 Roadrunner would be a good example of a true muscle car.  Corvettes have always been sports cars.  For me the hardest distinction is for the Mustang, Camaro, Firebird, Cougar, Challenger, Cuda, Javelin cars.  In one way I would group them all as pony cars because of their size and layout, long front deck and short rear.  But a car like a Boss 429, COPO Camaro, 440 6 pack Challenger, or hemi Cuda seems to fit under muscle car rather than pony car.  Maybe it all depends on the size of the engine in it.  Then there is the AMX.  Sports car or pony car or muscle car?  We could go on and on.

Maintenance / Re: Intermittent Horn Blowing - 1968 Camaro RS / SS / BB
« on: April 16, 2018, 03:13:09 PM »
I can remember way back when I was driving my parents' old car, a 1965 Dodge Coronet, that it began to have the horn blow when I made a right hand turn.  Part of the horn assembly under the center cap broke, and whenever a loose piece made contact the circuit was activated and the horn blew.  I know it can be quite unnerving.

If memory serves me right there is a castle on Lake Tahoe.  There is an old paddlewheeler that goes out onto the lake.  I know there is a boating museum at Lake Tahoe with a lot of restored old boats.  Not too far away going toward California on I80 at Donner Lake is a museum and statue honoring the Donner Party that mostly perished due to an early snowstorm in the winter of 1846-47 on their way to California that trapped them on the eastern side of the Sierra Nevadas.  Hope this helps.

Wow, you learn something new all the time at CRG.  I wasn't aware that you could get a vinyl top of any color, let alone black, on a Z10.  Are there any known Z11s with an original black convertible top?

Sorry to hear about your having to move from your father's old property.  I know how it feels to live on ones parents' property for decades.  So many memories.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: New member trying to find out what I have- Barn Find

I might be wrong, but I think that the 1 stands for Chevrolet and is correct in preceding the 9 for '69 model year and N for Norwood assembly plant, followed of course by your car's VIN.

And that reminds me what I wanted to ask you guys.  What type of gauges do most of you prefer, mechanical or electrical?  What are the pros and cons of each type?

We all must be thinking alike on this one.  I want to get a set of gauges in my '67 that currently has idiot lights.  Two of the four don't even light up.  Oh, and get a set of the new red line Firestone radials also.

I love that color.  It sure looks silver to me but will believe that it is Seafrost Green.
