Hello,
I've seen two cars recently that had a VIN for one factory and a trim tag from another factory. The body sequences seemed to be in line with the vin #s as you'd expect.
Did they ever ship a body intended for one factory over to the other?
Are these restorations that used multiple cars to complete one?
Examples with pictures:

Here's another example, but without a picture of the VIN it is possible the user mistyped the VIN letter in the auction:

No mixing of Los trim tags and Nor VINs occured, or vice versa. Lots of red flags with the black car aside from the poor quality restoration. Trim tag appears to have been replaced. It may even be a 68 body shell.

Thanks for your reply! Could you point out some flaws in the restoration? I suppose I could learn a thing or two from you :-)
Thanks,
Mike

The car hasn't been restored it's been restified. The headlight doors are misaligned; RS trim along the bottom is misaligned; it has a late model (69 and up) alternator location and tall water pump; it's missing the plugs in the trunk; the wires in the trunk are misrouted; it's not even an original floor shift manual tranny car (no hump in the tranny tunnel); missing part of the rear bumper; missing the screws that hold down the cover for the filler neck and the metal shield that goes over the rubber boot isn't even there; lots of parts are the incorrect color; and don't even get me started on what a hatchet job they did to the dash.
There are other things. For instance, the vents in the dash on the left and right side indicate either A/C for 67 or a 68 body with Astro-Ventilation was actually used. I also noticed the shot of the door tag (67 only VIN) shows it's an LA car while the cowl tag shows it's a Norwood car; it's missing the covers for the frame on the seats and the seats were poorly covered; it should be Granada Gold exterior (G-G) with Gold standard buckets (709-Z); it's not even an RS (no L in the 3rd position) These are just the most obvious.

Is'nt it against the law to not have the vin match the title? Or is because it is the cowl tag and that does'nt matter as long as the the window vin matches the title? I'm confused ??? I guess my question is does the VIN numbers appear on the cowl ?

The cowl tag has no legal standing for identifying the car - it's just a convenience so the dealer could identify the correct codes for the paint and trim combinations and the body build date, and the VIN does NOT appear on the cowl tag - only the body style and body number.
The numbers on the VIN plate (on the hinge pillar on a '67, and on top of the instrument panel behind the windshield on '68-'69) must match the VIN on the title, and a derivative of the VIN is stamped on the passenger side of the cowl below the vent grille and adjacent to the heater blower motor hole in the firewall underneath the blower housing.

The color of your car is correct. 72 B = Hugger orange with black vinyl top. To decode the rest of your trim plate, see this link:

If you look at the rivits on the black car they look wrong to me I think someone may have put the vin from another car on it I would love to see a pic of the hidden vin #s.
