I was surprised when someone brought an Alfa Romero GTA to our monthly Cars & Coffee and I didn't have my camera with me to take some photos.  First GTA I've even seen in person.

An operator at Norwood or Van Nuys when they were building 1969 Camaros would have about a minute to perform a task, so it is possible for mistakes to be made when stamping partial VIN numbers as the Federal requirement to do so had been recently passed:

https://www.vintageautomotive.net/?tag=frame-vin

I was working at the Van Nuys Plant when we were required to apply the anti-theft labels on various parts on Camaros and Firebirds and remember the problems we initially had on the assembly line and cars had to be pulled off the line when the labels were not applied properly.

The posting from camaro.net on Sept. 5, 2001 says that the upper dash panel was for sale on eBay, which included the VIN tag:

Scott - Thank you for the footage taken at Road America as I think I saw Thieriot's GTA #95 at the beginning of the film.  Charlie once told my brother that when they used to race the 2 liter cars with the 5 liter cars, during the driver's meeting, they were told to stay out of Parnelli Jones' way! - Mark

Thank you for all the information about Charlie Thieriot as he and my brother, John, both belonged to the Alfa Romero Owner's Club of Southern California.  Although I never met Charlie, he seemed to be quite a character as he once bought a 1967 Ferrari 275/GTB4 back in the 1970s (when they were somewhat affordable) and joined the local Ferrari club.  When Charlie found that the club members were not as friendly as those in the Alfa club, Charlie took his GTA to a track event at Riverside and had the 3rd fastest time, which didn't go well with the other Ferrari owners.  My brother was at the Trans Am race at Riverside with Charlie and also saw Parnelli Jones win the last 1970 race of the season. - Mark

Scott - Do you have any photos of Charlie Thieriot, who drove an Alfa Romero GTA at the 1970 Trans Am races at Road America, Watkins Glen, and Riverside?  Thanks - Mark

I had a friend who said that he was going to buy a new Corvette if he survived his second tour in Vietnam.  Upon returning, he went to Harry Mann Chevrolet and told the salesman to order the fastest Corvette available.  Well, my friend got a 1969 Corvette with a L88 engine, which he only kept for one month as he said it was too dangerous to drive!

According to CRG, this 1969 396 Camaro should have been equipped with smog equipment:
