Tough piece to find and I've been looking. My car is a coupe with L35, which shows in the Assembly Manual as being required. Also depicted in Badshifter's #3 post / reply.

That's good, so you know it is not original to your car. What are your plans for finishing your car; stock, day 2, mod or?

I know they never came with a jam nut BUT...
Chevrolet discontinued the Chrome Ball very early as I tried to get one in the early '80's and they were already discontinued by then.  The last iteration they sold was a crappy black plastic version smaller than the original and they looked like they belonged on a kids toy.  The repro looks pretty  good but the threads are no way as good as GM.  You need the lock nut just to keep it screwed on.

Yep positive
I drove down to Portland, Oregon and bought from The Chevy Store. It’s a classic car dealership. I saw the original Z28 it came out of. It was getting a JL8 rear. That was bought from Reggie Jackson (the baseball player) years ago. I have pictures of the rear end and the Z28.

Sounds like it will be a great car when completed. Are you sure about the BV rear end code?
