RPO CE1 Headlight Washers were standard on 1969 Rally Sport optioned cars and optional on non-RS cars. I ran across a headlight washer hose retainer clip, PN 3827371 that is called out in the AIM CE1 A2 Page 237 #8 that I've not seen on any original or restored car until recently. The clip attaches to the front lip of the radiator support, in front of the support brace bolting points (both sides), and carries the headlight washer hose. This clip is not unique to the Camaro and is used on C2/C3 Corvettes and possibly other GM cars. I was told about it by a TC member who went through Bow Tie judging with his 69 RS/SS 396. Anyone seen these used in production?

Thanks for posting - good data point for an early build date (Norwood?). Was it an early production practice, later discontinued? Anyone else have these on their RS or headlight washer optioned 69?

Lloyd, my late (09C) Z28-RS had at least one of those clips... Sorry I didn't take photos and can't recall how many there were but 'two' makes sense...?
-
My 06A RSZ doesn't have them, owned the car since 74, no evidence of them ever being there, no scratching of rad support paint either.
There is also a 09A (69) RSL89 here and it doesn't have them either, but I cant honestly say if original.
Wonder if its a early car thing that was deleted further into production?

Thanks for posting Gary, yes the AIM calls for 2 clips, one on each side in front of the fender support brace bolt location. Interesting that a September 1969 build RS/Z had them.

Mike, I was also wondering if the clips were introduced early in production and subsequently discontinued as unnecessary. That theory isn't supported by the AIM and Gary has now posted his September 69 build had them. Hmmm.

LOS (VN) 04C Pacer.

Lloyd, Last night I spent quite a bit of time going thru my photographs before my car was disassembled, and now I'm seeing my earlier statement is incorrect. (The older I get the worse my memory gets!).. What I see in my photos is that rather than 'clips', my car had a 'plastic' tie in each of those locations. It does seem obvious that some means of holding those hoses up out of the way of the moving HL door would be needed. Here is a photo of one on my car before I disassembled the front clip; there was one on each side...
-
Thanks for posting Gary. As you know the vacuum and washer hose bundle was tucked under the radiator core top bar and two plastic ties secured it to the wiring harness that was attached to the radiator support with a series of push-in split clips. Although we know assembly line practice was not always consistent, I'd guess that someone re-positioned or added a plastic tie to secure the hose bundle to a better location as shown in the photo. What I did note, and maybe I'm just "seeing things", but there appears to be vertical witness marks in the paint where the headlight washer hose clip would have been installed at the factory. Can't say for sure absent the clip but its possible.

I bought my car in 1976, but sometime before that the front fenders/hood had been repainted so perhaps someone in a body shop modified that before I purchased it...? So many things we can't know about our cars before we purchased them... :)
So you think I should find/buy the correct clips from a Corvette vendor and remove those ties?
-
Gary, far be it for me to recommend what to do but if you already have the 2 plastic ties that carry the hose bundle located per the AIM and you want to add the headlight washer hose clips then I'd eliminate the extra plastic ties shown in your photo and source and install a couple of original washer hose clips. Repop washer clips available from the parts vendors I've seen are fully vulcanized whereas original clips (as shown in my first photo post) are a combination phosphated and vulcanized.

Jim, any chance you could post a photo of the installed clips?

Yes, I will have to get to it in storage. Stdby

01C Norwood ‘69 RS has the 2 plastic ties as shown in the previous posted picture. It was like that when I purchased the car in Nov 1991.
I’m not sure why you’d want a separate clip for the headlight washer hose as opposed to everything bundled by the plastic strap.
These plastic straps are “OEM style” as opposed to something like a zip tie and one would suspect factory installed - especially since multiple cars have them.
I like the way the plastic strap keeps everything tucked up and out of the way of the top of the headlight door.

Thanks for posting Jim, good photos and a worthy example!

I dug up my original RS and headlight washer hose lines - I was surprised the clip was on the headlight washer line. 04B VN built Z.
Here's some details shots:

And here they are on some disassembly pics:

Thank you for identifying the clip and pointing it out. I would have missed it during the restoration.

My 09B car.

Charley, thanks for posting, is that a 9B 1968 or 1969 build date? Norwood? The second (lower) photo, looks to be the same as one of Jim's in Reply #15?

I have a 10B Oct 68 RS/Z. The headlamp washers have been removed for many years, but I have the hoses and parts still kind of together as they were removed. Before me. Attached is a pic of some of what I have. Are these the same clips under discussion here?

Jimmy, the clips in the foreground, closest to the hose "T" appear to be the same as the ones being discussed on this thread, thanks for posting.

Here's a pic of the hoses and nozzles as they are now, and I'm thinking this was how they were together on the car before removal. Just for reference.

Another pic.

Oops. Wrong pic. 9B 68 Norwood.

There were a pair of them in a baggie in the boxes of parts with bruce's late march L78 pacer.

Thanks James, would you post a photo of the clips?

Lloyd, just a guess but Jim's 3rd picture in reply #15 might indicate why some assemblers just used the strap and did not bother taking time to also add the clip.
