Originality / Re: 69 Camaro Horns
« on: February 03, 2012, 09:05:25 PM »
Your horns are fine. They used the similar castings for High and Low and on the Low ones is that dollup looking thing over the H.  yours are correct.

I plugged my carb crossover ports with the freeze plugs, have the restrictor plates in the intake gaskets (small hole left) and took the flapper off on my 69 SS350 engine.  No issues with cold start (std manifold choke coil) or any other issue, but the paint on the manifold still chars.  Anyway to get around that? :)

Great story!  Was the original 302 ever re-united with the Camaro?

Originality / Re: 69 Air cleaners - cowl and SS 350
« on: January 07, 2012, 02:01:24 PM »
Nope, that will not work, cowl and regular are different diameters. I assume this is for your L65 car, the best you can do (If you cannot find an original) is to find a period correct auto 4bbl cleaner (much more common on any chevy 69 and 70) and graft a 4 speed snorkel from a used/junk repro cowl cleaner.

I think I may have a correct auto cleaner if you want to PM me.

The check valve is a pretty complicated small part, center, 2 ends and 2 check balls. :D

The Y fitting is done, still have a few from the last batch I did. email me if you want to talk.

Here is a pic

The RS T check valve is on my list to reproduce, but it keeps getting pushed down on the list :)

Originality / Re: Correct Horn Fasteners

I am pretty sure the serrated ones are correct for 69 at least.  The horn grounds through that bolt and the serrations had to bite past the paint to bare metal.

Is that a mono leaf 12 bolt? Or at least the shock plates?

John

Yup, mono shock plates and repro leaf springs.

Originality / Re: Factory D90 Stripe
« on: November 12, 2011, 10:17:48 PM »
Marty, keep in mind my stripes are not original (repro stencils) and the repaint before I got the car did not have them.  It is a 10B NOR (Oct 68) car.  I used the pictures on the web and had my painter extend them about 3/4" on the extensions.

I finally got mine down, the DR side is perfect, cannot see the seam, on the PS side there is a small join mark at around 19 or 19.5 in. from front fender edge.

Those are not RS fenders, the RS extensions are much larger.  In order to find out whether they are repro, you need to look at the nutserts that hold the hood hinge on.  repros are just flat metal with a hole and a nuts welded on the inside.  factory fenders had a square nut attached in a recess.

Marty, nice thread! When my stripe was put on by my painter, he bitched at the stencil company because it came in two pieces.  The join is right about where your pics show.  Maybe the GM stripe stencil was the same way?
