I have a 1969 camaro. Its VIN is 124379n56057. I've decoded its cowl tag. It was LeMans Blue with ivory standard interior and a parcemnt vinal top. It built in the second week of december. It still has the orignnal rear end which a 12 bolt with a 2:56 ring gear and multi-leaf springs. Im guessing it was a 350 v-8 car because it has the duel fuel lines and it was a small block car. It was 3 speed auto with colume shift. It had four wheel non power drum brakes. I just wanted to know is there a way to find out if it was one of these cars. I don't have a build sheet but everything I have points that way. Any help

Post the cowl tag numbers and that may help ID the car better and the rear numbers if you have them.

Yes, the car is an LM1. No other model could have an X44 tag and 2 fuel lines.
Could you check the VIN, it's missing a digit?
Do you have the rear axle code?

sorry the vin is 124379n560573. i will post the rear axles codes later today. has this car ever been registered?

Kurt Im surprised that he found a 2:56 gearing in that 12bolt. Although I suppose someone could have changed out the gears. With the LM1 were you able to order such a highway gear for it? I thought only the Powerglides had that low of an option?

I've seen others with a 2.56. It appears that it was the economy ratio.
No, it was not in the database.
It has a 3 speed indicator on the column? Trans is gone?

Yes and the orignnal engine. It has a 75 350 in it now, but Im building a 327 for it out of another 69 camaro. It will take few days for me to get the axles codes. What can i do to get it registered.

i got two of the rear axle numbers. i have the casting code which reads L68. i looked at the chart on CRG that was just posted but mine has only those 2 numbers and that letter. Also I have casting number which is 3894860NF which i already know its a 12 bolt. Thrusday I'll post the axle code because i have to pull the tires off. I know it starts with a P

Its going to be a really cool car some day. It's just a daily drive for now. It needs to be restored but Im doing what I can till that time comes. It was my first car so its really specail to me

the axles code is PY1101G now it also had a marking behind the G that looked like another 1, but im not sure if thats part of the number. So is it possible for it to be the right rear end.

Yes, it appears to be the correct rear axle for your car. Yes, the 1 after the G is part of the axle code and is interpreted as "first shift". PY1101G1 decodes as 2.56:1 axle ratio, non-posi, 12 bolt rear axle assembled on November 1, 1968 by the Detroit Gear & Axle Plant, first shift. The date also would be correct for a 12B built car. Actually, that's a long time between the axle and a body in that timeframe. Could it be PY1201G1?
Unusual if it is PY1101G1, but with that code and application, I highly suspect that it is original.

sorry i fat fingered it when i typed it in. Its PY1211G1. i have picture of it this time too. The P is under the sway bar clamp.

Could you please elaborate on your above comment? I based my response to "camaromikey" on my own car's numbers and would like to find out where I'm off. I have a 02C built Los Angeles '68Z. The numbers on it's original axle are:
rear axle stamp: BU0119G1
E
axle casting date: A38
axle casting number: 3894860NF
axle foundry control number: CON1

What do you mean by different plant? Wasn't my rear axle also assembled by the Detroit Gear & Axle Plant? ???
