I would like to know what the correct color or finish should be on the various components of the steering column section that protrudes through the firewall. The part that is visible in the engine compartment.
I labeled all the parts in question A,B,C,D, and E in my photo.
B and C are plastic so I would assume they just stay their natural color.
Thanks.....Dave

I'm not sure on the exact finishes, but I had mine restored by Rick Nelson from MuscleCar Restoration, http://www.musclecarrestorationanddesign.com/index.htm. He's well known to do spot on restoration work.
Here's the results - maybe you can deduce the correct finishes from here:

Ok sorry for the delay.. All three of the extra ones I have are pretty weathered but this is what I can see from them and from yours. My pics turned out like crap so no need to post them.
A - Semi gloss black (most likely same color as dash black whatever % it is cant remember off top of my head
B - Natural
C - Natural
D - Natural (or phosphate hard to tell)
E - Semi gloss black (same as a)

Between Hans L's photos and your info, I think I am good to go on this.
Thanks to both of you.

Darrell might be correct but I used Krylon Satin (I have the old Krylon from many years back) which seemed to me to be very close to what two originals I had were. I know NCRS friends used that for interior odds and ends and JohnZ has mentioned that in prior posts.
Hans, Rick Nelson is well known with the Chevelle community and a great person to talk to and as you found out does outstanding work.

Totally agree. He also restored the power steering pump and original tie rods for my Z. I was on a biz trip out in Illinois so drove down to his shop, chatted it up and had a nice dinner with Rick and his wife across the street. Super nice guy and top notch work. Highly recommend him for restoration work. He goes the extra mile to ensure its factory correct in every detail.

When I restored the front sub-frame / engine compartment in 2005, I didn't do anything to my steering column other than clean it. Some have also reported having a green paint spot instead of blue. In the following link, JohnZ explains that the blue paint mark is probably an inspection mark. http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=8951.msg63198#msg63198

John stated "Probably from a random-sample inspection at Saginaw; my '69 is an untouched original, and doesn't have any blue marking on it."

I didnt find a mark either
