With the complete lack of any corroborating evidence for the enamel theory and lots of evidence that points towards the standard lacquer, I think this is a non-issue. The paint was lacquer.

It was interesting to figure out. Not a lot of data, but it was Pex's 12D data was problematic and important - the wrong calendar year for a 12D car.
I tried day combinations, day week, ignoring the 12D data, etc. Took a while to break the normal dating paradigm to come up with something that made sense. Looking back, it's a duh, ....now.... :)

I'd say it's too early for a 661 housing. Not many 661 housings in 69, but none that early.
They were 1970 castings and 07A is still part of the old model year.

Tags are original to the car, even though though the VIN has been off.

Thanks guys for the additional data!
Thanks Kurt!  I knew you would have a theory.
I didn't have one until I compiled the data. You forced me to come up with one. :)

I would agree the 06A tank either sat for a while or is misstamp.

Interesting. Since they had the year on the tank, they could just keep counting - higher than 52 wasn't a problem.

Well, let's compile the data. I dug out my tank and added it to the mix.

12D  68 20
02C  68 27
07D  68 52

01B  21 69
01C  22 69
05A  37 69
06A  24 69

I think the code is a running week date, starting at 01 about August and incrementing throughout the model year.
More data would help. Anyone with an early 68 or early 69 car (Aug-Dec) that can add their tank date?

As I said above, the thread didn't have a lot of info in it.

Mainly if the body has partial VINs on it.

Here's a bigger picture of your tag.

The tag was discussed before on the old version of this forum, but that's not accessible right now. It didn't have a lot of info from what I recall.

10 or 12 bolt? Do you know the axle code (or engine code)?

Pretty well optioned car. Deluze, AC, PB, PS, vinyl top.

Tag matches the VIN - I agree with Bill that it's original.

Pad is a restamp.

Nasty rusty pad, but a really clean stamp.
Cause it's a restamp, just like his other DZ block.

And he added the extra DZ stamp on the block, just like the other block.

Numbers all look fine.
Unfortunately it's a restamp, just like his other DZ block. I like the extra DZ that he stamped on the raw casting.

I assume it's on a red SS350 car?

I've seen that tag before. The only thing that comes to mind is that the body was a service part.

Does it have the partial VIN's on the body?

These lists are updated when we get new documents from various dealers. I know I have a few to add to the 69 list, but there haven't been many new documents lately.
