Title: 67 tag & VIN questions …
Post by: al8apex on June 27, 2023, 12:53:35 AM
a good friend bought this car (67 SS RS bb 4 speed “custom”) at bj a few years ago that was sold by that place in the Pacific Northwest

The car had a 12 bolt cover on a 10 bolt …

anyway, looking for input on these tags on the car

I have my own thoughts but wanted to get others thoughts

Must be an ultra-rare 12 cylinder.  Did you read this yet?  I think your friend has a VIN tag problem.  Plus the tag finish looks brushed, instead of polished stainless.

The cowl tag may be legit, but the experts here will need to verify. And looking at the trim tag, it's neither an SS or RS.

Yeah, my take as well, and the trim tag matches the VIN error

The “seller” is a widely known “creative” reseller or their own “restored” vehicles …

The 12 bolt cover on the 10 bolt axle was his 1st clue

I’ve been fixing their creative features for the past few years

I wouldn't do another thing to the car until the VIN issue is cleared up.  Most likely a new state substitute VIN will need to be issued.  The actual VIN will need to be determined and run by officials to see if it was stolen.  And then there's consideration on taking legal action for seller fraud, monetary damages, etc.  Have you seen the "hidden" partial VIN stamps on the firewall and under the cowl vent panel?

That thing is a mess. Drop it like it’s hot! I didn’t know you could put a 12 bolt cover on a 10 bolt….never occurred to try.

It was sold through the Scottsdale Barrett Jackson auction 6 years ago

Listed as "Custom" and "re-creation" and modified in that 2019 listing.  The problem I have with these cars is after it changes hands a few times, these details are forgotten or disappear, and the uninformed new owner thinks they are paying for an actual RS/SS.  Even the last sentence of the ad states "This is a very cool ‘67 RS/SS big block, triple black Camaro with an excellent stance.".   The VIN tag is still a big issue.
