Originality / Re: cowl hood factory order
« on: September 23, 2015, 12:01:42 AM »
Since COPO order vehicles were also fleet vehicles like taxis, company fleet vehicles such as trucks or cars trucks for utility companies and highway depts. Could a base Camaro have been order with a stand alone ZL2 option.  Not likely, but could it have been done?

If you have a numbers matching all original car I would not change the color.  If the car is non-stock I don't see a problem in changing the color.  My '69 Camaro is far from stock.  I would not have purchased it if it had been it's original Burnished Brown.  I'm glad it had been repainted Dover white.  Dave

Restoration / What else do I need to change?
« on: July 14, 2015, 09:15:09 PM »
I've started to collect pieces to return my "711" interior back to it's original "727".  The previous owner had everything that was white dyed black.  My question is:  Besides the seats and the door panels what needs to be white/ivory?

Thanks, Dave.

Originality / Re: Service Engines (CE coded)
« on: June 30, 2015, 09:15:38 PM »
It's been stated on this forum that '68 Z/28 engines were all 2 bolt mains.  In '71 I bought a '68 Z/28 that had a replacement "CE" motor.  In '73 I rebuilt that "CE" motor.  It was indeed a 302 Z/28 motor.  It had the correct crank , pistons,  rods and damper.  The damper did not have an offset keyway. It was also a 4 bolt main block.  The block was a 3970010 casting.  If the engine was replaced during the '69 model year would this explain the 4 bolt mains?
Does this make sense?

Restoration / Re: Wheel weight removal tool

I ended up using a large pair of angle pliers.  Thanks for the response.  I found a place locally where I could order one.  I was surprised that Harbor Freight doesn't carry them.

Restoration / Wheel weight removal tool
« on: April 12, 2015, 01:35:07 AM »
I'm going to be replacing the TT2's on my Camaro with a set of used rally wheels.  I need to remove the old wheel weights before I start painting.  Can someone lead me to a "wheel weight removal tool" source?

Thanks,  Dave

Restoration / Re: What clip is being used for carb linkage.

I've decided to use the clip shown in "Zman1969"'s post.  Easy to install and remove.  I was able to find them locally .(Fastenal)

Thanks, Dave

Restoration / What clip is being used for carb linkage.
« on: February 24, 2015, 12:06:12 AM »
I have a '69 with a 4053 carb and the 2 piece throttle rod that is 1/4" with a groove around it. What clip is being used to hold the linkage to the carb?  I'm having trouble finding something locally.

Thanks,  Dave

Restoration / Gas cap for '69 Camaro GM part number #3931449
« on: January 25, 2015, 04:48:06 AM »
I suspect this cap is no longer correct for a '69.  A '69 gas cap should be "vented".   The caps I've been getting are in AC Delco boxes and use GM#3931449.  The last 3 caps I have gotten are not actually vented causing the needle and seat to seep. This causes a gas smell to build up the my garage after driving my car.  I have to remove the gas cap to relieve the back pressure.

These caps are marked "Vented" but are in fact "Non Vented caps"   The non-vented caps appear to be of the same construction.

Where can I get a correct gas cap?  My local dealerships don't stock the caps any longer but can order them, but they are not correct.

Ideas please.  I have been able to find good caps in the past but not lately.  Dave

General Discussion / Re: 1969 Burnished brown Z/28's
« on: December 11, 2014, 03:57:53 AM »
My '69 Z/28 clone was originally burnished brown with a dark brown vinyl top and ivory interior.  It was painted dover white with the vinyl top remioved 2 years before I bought in the '05.  A friend here locally has an original burnished brown Z/28 with black interior. It's a very nice car but not my cup of tea. I would have not bought the car I did back in '06 had it been burnished brown.  I don't care for the color.  I have seen quite a few "61" painted '69's over the years.  Most of them must be in Nor-Cal.

Sounds to me like the timing chain was put on with the cam and crank not indexed correctly.

Mild Modifications / Re: Swapping a 700R 4 into a 67
« on: August 20, 2014, 04:32:56 AM »
BEWARE!  You may not be happy with a 700R4  The gear ratio spacing is not the best.  First gear is very low compared to other options.  The 700R4 shifts from 1st to 2nd and feels like it just shifted from 1st to 3rd. With a 3:73 rear gear I didn't like it at all.  I pulled out the 700R4 and gave it away. Replaced it with an Autogear M22W 4speed.

You can change the ratios in a 700R4 or use one from a Corvette that has better ratio spacing.

This would just be a start!
