Title: Is this an LM-1 ?
Post by: lemarin on May 12, 2015, 12:22:12 AM
I'm new here, and just buying a 69 Camaro RS with 350 ci engine. After reading many text through internet, I realized that my car might be an LM-1. The car is coming with a AAG certificate (from Tenessee), and the engine is stamped: 19N507951 T0830HS. The car was built the second week of september 68, so it would fit within the 4 months of LM-1 production.

Anyone can confirm if I'm right or wrong ?

Welcome!

Yes, the HS engine code is the LM1 engine used with the TH350 transmission.

More here on the LM1.

I look forward to hearing more about the car and seeing some pictures.

Thanks for the answer bcmiller. Ok it has not the value of a Z28, but I like the fact that it still a rare and well optionned RS V8.

Sounds like a real cool find to me. We want to see it, pics? Welcome to CRG and hoping you stay and contribute and give, perhaps, valuable information to help our data collection, as well as, enjoy the fellowship of passionate car folk.

Thanks for the nice welcome ko-lek-tor.

There's a nice story behind this new buy.

My father had a 69 Camaro RS with 350 ci engine and 3 speed trans, daytona yellow. Unfortunately, he sold the car in 1973, 2 years before I was born. I never had the chance to see the car, and there's only one picture in his different album, where you can see half of the car. During many years, he kept talking about his 69 Camaro, he was telling all kind of stories that happened with this car. I kept dreaming about buying one, similar to the one he had. When I was young, I was drawing 69 Camaro's, and recently I start to buy diecast 1/18 Model of different version of the 69 Camaros.

Then I start searching on internet, to see if I could find a real Yellow 69 RS, for sale. There was one on eBay that was sold quicky before I was ready to buy, then the one I'm buying. I was wondering once, if I was not better to buy a more desirable and valuable version, like an SS396 or even a Z28 but finally choose the RS daytona yellow.

The one I'm buying has few difference with the one my father had: mine has optional vinyl roof, and the black stripes. The original rims are gone, and it has the optional cowl hood, my father had the regular flat hood.

Anyway, here's the only picture I have from his car:

Welcome lemarin! Cool photo, did your dad ever mention the liquid tire chain option? Your photo brought it to mind.

I already ask him about the winter tires availability back in 1969, and he could not remember. And on the only picture I have we don't see the rim....I'll ask him about this liquid tire chain, for me it's the first time I ever hear about that !
