While this is not a Trans Am race the attached photo shows the same 1968 Jeffords AMX-R that either paced the 1968 Trans Am race or was part of the pace lap along with the white 1968 AMX shown in the earlier posts. This picture shows the car pacing the Formula B cars at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on July 20, 1969. This was a support race for the Formula 5000 Continental Championship, so it probably paced the three separate heats that were run for those cars as well. I found it on page 67 of my book on the history of Road America entitled, "Road America: Celebrating 50 Years of Road Racing" by Tom Schultz. You can see a flagman in the rumble seat in the yellow shirt. Since the Hemmings article about this car in an earlier post states that Jeffords donated the AMX-R to the Brooks Stevens Museum in 1969, it must have been sometime after July 20th. This also proves that this car did not pace the 1969 Donnybrooke Trans Am race on July 6, 1969 since it still looks the same as it did in 1968 and that Trans Am race was only 2 weeks before the pictured race took place.
